NY Disney Cruise Just returned
It was great. We were the first ship out of NY. So much to do need a week off to recover.
Any question about it I will be happy to answer.

Re: NY Disney Cruise Just returned
My DD's friend and his family were on this same cruise. Heard the trip down was pretty rocky.

So glad you had a fabulous time! Our clients were thrilled with this sailing too and it's a busy itinerary for us.
Lilykat, sailing out of NY is nothing like a Florida port so hopefully your friend's travel agent talked to them about it before they booked their cruise.

Thank you, I am well aware that it isn't like sailing in the Caribbean (well even FL is frequently quite rough) - I have been on 15 cruises myself. In fact we sailed this past summer out of Bayonne after losing our 1st day on the Summit to Irene. My family cruises 4 times a year - and went out on Celebrity out of Bayonne in Feb. But for this sailing there was a TS out there that made it more rocky than usual.
I haven't spoken to them yet - they will be at our girls party tomorrow. I expect that they would know as they have been on more then 20 cruises mostly with Celebrity but this was their 1st disney cruise - they took this for their son as they usually only sail on Celebrity. If it goes went well they planned to book Disney to Europe in 1-2 years. But it was on cruisecritic and disboards that the 1st night was really rough with lots of people seasick from the TS that was out there.
etd to add - I got a kick though about the people who were saying that the atrium flooded due to the pool and the waves...LOL. That would have been quite a feat considering I think the atrium on that ship is what on a much lower deck right?

Re: NY Disney Cruise Just returned
Saturday was a bit rough. we were sitting by the Mickey pool in the late afternoon and it was making some waves, I don't believe it was flooding the atrium though. the atrium is like 6 decks below, lol. The next day was a little better and then smooth sailing after that.
we did have to circle around once to check out a raft that was in the ocean it was empty. and last night had some mechanical problems that stopped us for almost 2 hours. but other then that everything was so nice.

Some people just LOVE to exaggerate, LOL! Flooding 4 decks down would be... interesting. Not to mention what it would do to everything in between.
Your experience of one rough night agrees with my clients' and that's not bad considering you were sailing down the East Coast *and* dealing with a tropical storm. I'm glad you had such a great time!

That was why I was laughing when someone posted that. No way that could happen. So that was was why I was curious as to how rough it really was. If you were able to do the pool it couldn't have been that bad. I have been on several cruises with 15-20 ft waves and times they closed the pool because it was too rough. Makes for great wave pools. The worst one I was on was a med cruise where they had buckets all over the halls and stairs and even the crew was sick. That was one I won't forget. But that was also a smaller ship and a now defunct 5 star line about 16 yrs ago.

Re: NY Disney Cruise Just returned
Sounds similar to my experience on the Regal Empress before she was FINALLY decommissioned! After knocking out a big chunk of the Nassau port, of course. eek. Spotted her several years later in Ft. Lauderdale while we were killing time between flights by taking one of those waterway tours and about died laughing. Poor little DumbBoat (our nickname for her)...
Disney, and most other cruise lines, work SO hard to keep their ships out of poor weather - both for safety and passenger experience. We cruise enough that odds are we're going to hit it sooner or later and we just deal. I always feel bad for the new cruisers though.

This!! Unfortunately that is what really stinks about sailing from NY you never know where you will be going. You pray it is to the place intended but I remember several summers when many cruisers were given a rude awakening when they boarded (no advanced noticed) they decided to go in I think end of Sept or Oct to Canada rather than Bermuda or the Bahamas - so no one was prepared for the cold weather. While you take what you get when you roll the dice - I think no matter how prepared you are it doesn't mean that changes or rough weather make for happy passengers.
I think most of the lines are good about that - but I think NCL had some questionable decisions recently. We were leaving on the Summit last year and lost the 1st day to Irene. They actually came into port on Sunday. I think it would have been smarter to do what the other lines did and either to get into port early and get out again or to ride it out at sea and let it pass then come in.

So I got to see our friends at the party today and they said they had a fabulous time too and highly recommend it. They were sorry to see that they aren't doing it again next Summer. They had a suite and were very pleased with the entire thing. She laughed when I said I read online that it was very rocky - that they felt it wasn't rough at all. Only got to speak to her for a minute because there was too much going on - but it sounds like she liked it as much as the OP did!

I was looking into booking a family vacation for NEXT summer out of NY on a Disney Cruise....when I looked for info on the Disney website, it lists no dates for summer 2013. What's up with that?

They wont be sailing out of new york next year as of now. I believe eh Disney magic is going into dry dock for some repairs so they aren't sending it back up here.

The Disney Magic is sailing the Mediterranean in the summer of 2013 and the other 3 ships will be located in the Bahamas/Caribbean.

Re: NY Disney Cruise Just returned
Yup, this summer is your only chance (until at least summer 2014, I would say) to sail on DCL out of NY. I'm so sad we're going to have to miss out this time!
Did they have any themed entertainment?Anything to do with NY other than the bumper sticker?

Not sure if it was because our friends were in a suite or not but they got a clock and a certificate and something else mickey related for the 1 st cruise out of NY. She said there were NY things in the store too.
I am hoping in about 2-3 years they will leave again from NY as that is when we would consider sailing with them.
