D&C question
My friend just called me - she's at the doctor waiting for a sono - they think she miscarried. They are going to check to see if she needs a D&C. She asked me if I knew anything about the procedure (how long, are you knocked out or given a local, pain, recovery, etc.) and when she can try again.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Re: D&C question
its not too bad (hospital and recovery wise)- i think i was out and in recovery within a half hour (from the operating room) - another hour i was going home. obviously there will be bleeding afterward and i had some cramping. emotionally - she is going to be a mess
give her lots of
eta - hopefully she is allowed to try again right away - i had to wait 6 months b/c i had a partial molar pregnancy. i think being able to try right away again helps. she is in my prayers

Re: D&C question
I was in and out. The procedure lasted about 20 minutes and the worst part is the before part and the after part emotionally. I had to wait 2 cycles before I could start again, but I was in a different boat than others. For your friend...she will need all the support. I had verl litt;e cramping, and bleed a few days.

Re: D&C question
I am so sorry for your friend, Jodi
I had a D&C when I was about 13 wks along.. The procedure itself was quick and painless. I was fully under, did not remember a thing except for being brought into the OR and then waking up to my doctor telling me I was going to be OK ..
As Diane said, the time leading up to the procedure was horrible for me, and the emotional state I was in afterwards was awful. but 'pain' wise and physically, I was ok. I had bleeding on/off for 2 weeks and some cramping that night, but it was tolerable..
I was advise to wait 2 cycles to try again and was lucky enough to conceive this baby rather quickly after that ...
More for your friend.. it's a really upsetting and difficult thing for anyone to have to endure

Re: D&C question
Mine was Ambulatory Surgery - so in and out the same day. I didn't have any pain, just some discomfort after sitting a while. I remembered crying - A LOT. The second day after surgery (when I was done being in depression mode), my DH took me out to Greenport just to walk around. I couldn't walk for long, but just being outside and getting my mind off it it made a huge difference. Let her know you are there for her - but don't let her sulk all day. Get her out of the house if she is physically able - it was the best thing for me.
Oh to answer your question - I waited one period and then got pregnant again. I am now 25 weeks - so tell her there is a silver lining!
