natural miscarriage vs D&C
Found out officially today that I miscarried. the doctor beleives that I've passed everything and therefore wont need a D&C. He said that I should expect to get my period in 6 weeks. I had miscarried about 4 years ago and needed a D&C and my doctor at the time said I would get my period in 4 weeks, and i did get in, 4 weeks to the day of the D&C.
my question is - it is normal for your next period to come later after a natural miscarriage than a D&C? wasnt sure if it's just two doctors differening thoughts.
Also, how long should I expect to bleed with a natural miscarriage? I cant remember with my D&C, but I think it was about 2 weeks. it's been so long I really cant recall.
TIA

Re: natural miscarriage vs D&C
I had a very bizarre case with my last miscarriage where my beta took a verrrrry long time (4 months) to come down to 0. Once it was down to 0, I got my period with a few weeks. Did they do any bloodwork to check your beta?

I'm so sorry for your loss. I've only had a natural miscarriage but it took 7 weeks for me to get a period after my beta had returned back to zero.

Re: natural miscarriage vs D&C
First, so sorry. Lots of to you. To answer your question, my period has come exactly 4 weeks after a natural miscarriage 2x and a D&C 2x. (I've apparently also ovulated normally because I've gotten pregnant before my first period, so take that into consideration too.) However, it wasn't always normal after my other miscarriages. I truly don't know if there is a "science" to it, if dr.s could say, but if your period is normal every single month and you have no other issues, I don't see why it would take longer. Also, for me, with a natural miscarriage, it was heavy for a few days and lasted no longer than 9 days. I was told to give a call if very painful cramping, bleeding longer than two weeks, fever, chills, etc.
Again, so sorry.

Re: natural miscarriage vs D&C
Thanks everyone - appreciate your inputs! I was very regular before, so hopefully that'll make this quick. I think my RE told me that if I dont get my period in 6 weeks he'll give me something to get it started...back to the waiting game. in the meantime i'm ginog to back to Weight Watchers and working out! Oh, and I think I may buy myself something as a pick-me-up...Retail therapy is one of the best out there!

I have a large collection of designer handbags for that very reason! It seems the more infertile I get, the more cats and bags I own.
