Who do you use and what plan do you have for home utilities?

I'm closing on out house Thursday but the sellers aren't moving out until the 30th. So I need to start calling companies to get the utilities in our name so I have a few questions (I'm clueless!)

If the sellers have Verizon cable and all that do I still need them to come in and install cable/phone/ Internet? Or do I just have to pick up the boxes? And call to set it up?

Lipa- I've seen some people post that they do balanced billing. Do I just call and ask them to put it in my name or are there special plans I should look into?

Water- is the company aqua for lindenhurst?

Oil? I know nothing lol how do I find a good deal? What companies are good?

Am I forgetting any other utilities?

If it helps my house is in lindenhurst and is 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, split level, 2100 sq ft no pool

My home is electric only. In order to be on balanced billing you have to use LIPA for I think a year or 2 (not sure) and they project how much your going to use by an average. It changes year to year if your usage changes.
I think you can shop around for oil rates and I dont know much about water, we use SCWA.
