onesie size when LO is first born?
Probably a silly question since this will depend on how big our baby is when he or she is born lol.....but hoping for some feeback from BTDT's.....I found a cute (neutral!) onesie I want to order for DH for Father's Day.....should I go with a 0-3 month size? I planned on ordering a short sleeved one (due date is October 25th, so it will presumably start getting colder around then).
If you purchased onesies ahead of time, (or registered for them), do you think it's better to order a 3-6 month size or 0-3? I have no idea how quickly babies grow out of 0-3, and if I order it bigger I wonder if I should get the one w/ long sleeves. Yes, these are the things I spend my work day thinking about!!

Re: onesie size when LO is first born?
Depends on the baby. DD was 6-14 at birth and all her 0-3 month stuff was huge on her. She was in that size for two months. But I have a friend that had a baby in March and her DD is now in 6-month clothes!
I wouldn't buy anything with the expectation that it'll fit them for long.

Re: onesie size when LO is first born?
DD was 7 lbs 2.5 oz at birth but lost a LOT of weight the first few days. The nb outfits fit her for a month. She was in 0-3 until exactly 3 months. Then 3 m clothes until exactly 6 m.
Gerber brand runs REALLY small -- so small, in fact, that I didn't get any gerber clothes for her. Brands run very differently, but for us, Carters has run pretty true to size. DD is short but her weight is 50th percentile. Gap stuff usually fits her true to size. Now that she's a little older, she's wearing 18-24 m (she's 16 m old) and 2T in shorts. As an infant, though, she wore each size for around 3 months, maybe just slightly less.
If you're due at the end of October, the baby is going to be in mostly long sleeve, footie sleep n plays for the first 4-6 months probably since it'll be winter. You can put a short sleeve onesie underneath, though.

Re: onesie size when LO is first born?
Thank you both!!! I think I will order a 0-3 month size w/ long sleeves (the onesie is kind of seasonal so I'd rather the baby wear it November/December). Babies in my family tend to be 7-8 pounds at birth, so hopefully mine will be no different (and hopefully I don't go way beyond my due date!!)

I agree with this. Ds was always true to size with Carter's/Gap stuff. Gerber does run really small, and I also never bought Gerber stuff for that reason (plus Carter's washes so well). My ds was 7.8 at birth and was in 0-3 for approx. 3 months.

Re: onesie size when LO is first born?
DD is 4 months old and just recently switched into 3-6 month clothes. It's hard to tell how your baby will grow and fit into clothes.
If you LOVE the onesie, get it in both sizes just to be sure.
