Re: What gauge...

For PIO the 18" guage is to draw the medication up. The 22" guage is to inject. You have to change the needle.

Do not use the 18" to inject as that will hurt!

PIO was the only intramuscular injection I had, though some people trigger with an IM instead of a subcutaneous (ovidrel).

Re: What gauge...

I don't remember what gauge needles I used, but Delestrogen is also intramuscular. It's not as bad as PIO though, from what I remember. PIO is a thick oil.... Delestrogen from what I remember is thinner and the dose isn't usually as much as PIO.

Re: What gauge...

So the needles already have a 22 on them. I have to change it to an 18 then change it back to the 22?

Re: What gauge...

Some of my syringes had the 22 on it already so I would twist it off, withdraw with 18 then twist the 22 back on to inject.
Also add your HCG as an IM if you're using that as a trigger.

Lot's of luck!

Re: What gauge...

Just to input sometimes the needles come with the 22 and the 18 separate and sometimes it comes with the 18 and the 22 separate (that combo just saves having to change it the first time). It all depends on how they order it. Even though the 22 looks nastier, it goes in without any pain. 1st time is always a bit stressful.

If you are doing PIO, HCG trigger or delestrogen...you can warm up the vial in a cup of warm water first then draw it up. It just goes in easier. Then massage area after and if you want you can put a heating pad on the area. I use a micro wave kind. I also have my nurse mark the area the shot goes with a black marker. Mostly do that for PIO since its every night.

Good luck!

THIS.

also sometimes they (specifically freedom) don't send the 18g needle tips unless you ask for them. for like a week i was drawing PIO with the 22g and it took FOREVER to draw it up. finally i told the dr and they lent me some 18g tips until freedom sent more.
