chemical hair straightening
Is it safe while breast feeding? What is the whole process, can someone explain it to me please. I had pin straight hair, wanted curly hair so my cousin permed it. I LOVED it at first but now my hair is one big giant knot 24/7. I am so tired of it. I want to try the straightening. TIA

Re: chemical hair straightening
I don't think it's safe during breastfeeding but I can't really speak to that.
I do want to say though that I don't think you should chemically straighten it after it's been permed. It can really really fry and damage your hair. Perming is pretty harsh on the hair and then chemically straightening it after that is just a lot of processing.
The perm will grow out and in the meantime maybe you can try some products to condition and soften it and maybe just blow it out until it grows out.
I was at the salon the other day where this poor girl had to cut off almost all her hair due to over processing it... you don't want to end up with severe damage.

No, it is not safe when breastfeeding. I have gotten it done for 15 years now. Truthfully, I have to agree with the other poster, I would not do it on permed hair. It is a very drying process. I actually leave it in for a very short period of time just to loosen my curls and not straighten them.
I would talk to your hairstylist about the brazillian to straighten it instead.

From what I have been told (but I do not use it so what I know is limited) is that the chemicals are not as harsh on the hair. Some have formaldehyde in it but I think there are ones now that are made without it. I think many girls on here have done it, they probably know better than I would.

The perm has to grow completely out of your hair shaft, so it depends on how fast or slow your hair grows and how long your hair is. It definitely takes time. I am wondering if Keratin woudl be an option for you. I konw that is not damaging. You may want to ask a professional hair stylist.
