Fundraiser for 4yr with Brain Cancer
Bump
Im looking for local businesses to donate gift certificates or baskets to raffle off at a chinese auction fundraiser for a local long island family who have a 4yr old daughter who has been battling brain cancer pretty much her whole life she was diagnosed at 8months and spent much of her early life at Sloan Kettering she has been in remission for the last 10months but a recent MRI has shown the cancer is back and she will be going for treatment again so i am trying to raise funds to help with financial burdens the family will face .......any suggestions on ways to go about contacting businesses for donations anyone with experience doing something like this I could use some suggestions and tips :) also if anyone on here knows a business that might be interested in donating FM me for more information TIA
thank you all for your responses the family lives in smithtown but we are having the benefit either in miller place or stonybrook so im getting donations from surrounding businesses the response has been amazing so far thanks for all the tips oh and what is BHF?? Fundraiser for Stefani Felber

this is such a great thing youre doing!
i would suggest going to local businesses in the town the child is from. you will be surprised how a community can pull together for a cause like this. good luck!

I agree. When we did this for my cousin, I was amazing how generous some businesses were. One restaurant gave me two gift certificates for free; one for the raffle and one for the family so they could enjoy a nice meal out!
ETA: Also ask people you know who sell things like Tupperware, Lia Sophia, Mary Kay, etc. and see if they were willing to donate a basket of products.

My DS's friend from school passed away in January from brain cancer - so sad.

  This breaks my heart. I agree with the local businesses route and I'd absolutely put up a post on BHF if you haven't already. I hope she's well again soon!

What town are they located in?
Definitely go into small businesses---my parents own a small business in Seaford and would definitely donate for a good cause and if they could get some advertising.

Local and family owned businesses are definitely the best route, I've found.
Maybe also put a post out on FB, someone may own or know someone who owns a business and will be willing to donate.

I helped out with my cousin's fundraiser last year. She was 6 years old and had sarcoma cancer (she's 7 now and is cancer free). I clicked through the business directory and emailed LIF businesses one by one telling them about the fundraiser and sharing the link to her rainbowbridge website. I was amazed at the generosity of LIF vendors. They were beyond incredible! Good luck and I hope you get lots of donations!

My family owns a deli, we donate gift certifiactes all the time. If you fm me an address, i will donate. Also you can either mail me, or drop off flyers for me,, i will hang them up. We are in selden.
Also, my aunt is a super avon lady, i will see if she will donate!

i just want to say the response from people on here has been amazing im soo blown away already with the generousity of you guys thank you to all of those who have already agreed to donate to this family and thank you to all who have offered advice and tips i am truely grateful

There were two children with cancer on our old street. The block used to block parties every year but one year they used the party to funraise for the twins. They did a huge raffle with tons of items. They did a 50/50 raffle and people also just donated money. I think they raised 6k+.
I wasn't involved in the planning but she said she asked all the local restaurants, shops and businesses for donations. Some things were discounts off services i.e. $50 off x birthday party or other service. There were other items like $25 OFF at pizzeria or free manicure. Smaller ticket items are easier to get. Esp places that know the family were more willing to donate.

I have gone door to door to businesses to ask for "donations" for DS' school. I usually go into a shopping center and hit all the stores. I usually go to wine stores, small boutiques, etc... You can also go to nail salons, hair dressers, etc...
I had several "letters" mentioning what it was for, who, what , where, when.....
The businesses kept those letters for their tax purposes.

I went to HS with Shannon and it is heartbreaking to hear about Stefi. I def think local businesses are the way to go.

The more purchases we get, the more help we can be. This is a great way to help if you can't attend the benefit (and receive great products too!)

lots of ways to help little Stefi you can buy tickets to a zumba event or just come down the day of the event and check out the chinese auction, you can donate money directly to the Felber family via paypal, Michelle McFadden has set up a Scentsy page donating 100 percent of her profit and Heather Demauro has set up a Thirty-one tote bag event with her profits going to the family so many ways to help this family please check them out!!

My friend Lori is donating all of her commissions from May 23-June 15 from Stella and Dot. I put it as another page too to see if it generates some new hits.
