Anyone have gas heat?

We are purchasing a 2000 sq ft home on the south shore of nassau and are trying to estimate what is would cost a month to heat our house.

FWIW, we run very hot (keep the house chilly), but it is an older home (1933).

Thanks!

Re: Anyone have gas heat?

Our house is a colonial from 1939. A bit smaller than your house. Our gas bills from winter 2010 (this past year was unseasonably warm so I didn't include those) were
Nov $117.00
Dec $180.00
Jan $266.00
Feb $307.00
March $224.00

We don't do balance billing, we pay for what we actually use. I keep the house at 70. The house didn't have much insulation so we had some blown in (all outside walls, attic) this year and expect that will help the gas bill.

Re: Anyone have gas heat?

our house is smaller than 2000 - i think around 1500sqft. built in 1936 - no insulation in the living room, kitchen, dining room and the windows suck - we always laugh that we're heating our block in the winter. we keep the thermostat at 69-70 and pay $140/month

Our house is about 1750 square feet and we usually pay about $80/month on balanced billing and we keep our thermostat at 64 when we aren't home and 67 when we are home.

Re: Anyone have gas heat?

Per the prior owners they paid $79/mo. They were a big extended family. 2000 sf. split but 2 zones. We havent moved in yet so we have no clue what it will really be. $79 seemed low for a larger family who cooks often and is using both zones at all times.
