Antagonist IVF Protocol?

So I had my IVF consult and Dr. Hershlag stated that he would do an antagonist protocol with 3 weeks of BCP's and a lupron trigger...he said because of my PCOS that this protocol will help with OHSS...has anyone else used this type of protocol? I have to call the IVF coordinator to ask about scheduling since I will be away if IUI #6 fails and if I could start the BCP's while I am away.

All of this is scary and overwhelming but we are both ready!!!

Re: Antagonist IVF Protocol?

I swear to you that I wished I had done IVF from day 1... really C it's not that bad at all, and you are so positive the whole time because it's the magic ticket. It goes by so quickly.
He may not even do PIO with you because they lke Crinone over there, and he had me off the Crinone in 8 weeks.

yes he did say that no PIO...the research has indicated that there is difference and from what I read on these boards the PIO is a real biotch...I think thats gonna be my slogan...ONWARD AND UPWARD!!!

I wish you the best of luck, and hopefully you won't even need to move on to IVF. If you do, IVF gives you the best chance per cycle and your chances should be really good with your diagnosis.

However, I want to say that while many women get pregnant on the first try, no one cycle is ever a guarantee, and many women need more than one cycle. I am finally pregnant after a year of 4 IVF cycles. I was at a very highly regarded group practice for my first 3 cycles and I made the decision to switch clinics and finally got my BFP. I don't want to rain on anybody's parade, but I'm just trying to be realistic. I also realize that people all handle the stress of IVF differently. For some people their positivity helps them get through it pretty easily, but for others (myself included) positivity didn't get me that far and I had to struggle a lot more. We all have different ways of managing our emotions during infertility.

Again, good luck! Chat Icon

Mama2b- I did a similar protocol to that for my fresh cycles Chat Icon

.. but I also wanted to say I totally agree with this. I think it's really important that no matter what protocol you do, it's important to stay optimistic but realistic at the same time. Yes, IVF is the magic ticket if or when it works for you .. but it's never a guarantee in any given cycle. Many women on this board (myself included) are proof of that.

Positivity could help keep you sane and women who got pregnant while they were positive could swear its what did the trick.... but ultimately, I don't think you should go into anything with the mindset that it will be the magic ticket. You just have to have hope, keep the faith, and pray to who or what if anything you believe in. I hope this is it for you!!

Re: Antagonist IVF Protocol?

I def dont think anything is a guarantee but I have to keep positive in all this instead of angry that my body is working against me...I have hopes that each IUI would be successful and maybe this last one will give us a BFP but if it does not we are ready to move onto our IVF journey which I hope will be fruitful but we will keep trying till we get our child one way or another...thanks guys for all the support!!!

Re: Antagonist IVF Protocol?

Hmmm...this is interesting...

I know that at Cornell the antagonist protocol is mainly used for poor responders and those that usually make only few eggs....not women with PCOS who make tons of eggs...

The protocol includes using Menopur, Follistim/Gonal F and Ganirelix...using BCP or Lupron trigger has nothing to do with the antagonist protocol...Ganirelix is what makes the antagonist protocol..

Using Lupron as trigger is def better for women with PCOS (instead of HCG)..lowers your risk of OHSS....your E2 will not jump up so high after it (sometimes it lowers it)...which makes sense...but using the antagonist protocol on you....hmm..little confused....

Go on IVF connections, you will see many women discuss the protocol under NY, Cornell threads...
