We are actually looking into a Viking River Cruise within China! Haven't done much research yet though...

Maybe they pack lunch for you??

I know that this is different then a regular cruise though. Much smaller ship. Think of it more as a tour company that happens to house you on a boatChat Icon Chat Icon

I haven't but one of my DD"s teachers said that they did not long ago. They are very different than what you would normally think of with a cruise. Most like a floating hotel with just restaurant and rooms than like a real cruise ship.

I heard that depending on the tour you take you either eat on the ship or they have a prearranged restaurant that you and the tour would eat at.

I've never been, but I've seen many cruises that go along the Main (it runs into the Rhein) in Frankfurt, and, like a previous poster said, the ships are much smaller. You'll also find the demographic much older on cruises in Germany, so they like everything to be included and a set schedule. I would assume the excursion would have a break for lunch as lunch is the biggest meal in Germany. Also with older people, sometimes they just like to stay on the boat and this is an option for them?

Or is possible that there is an excursion in one place for the morning and one in the afternoon in another? How long is the cruise for? The Rhein is kinda small and you can take a fast train up it in about 2 hours. Maybe it's at a more relaxed pace?

ETA: another reason could be smaller towns tend to close up most things at lunch time for 2 hours, maybe they want to make sure you have something? You'll find small towns along the Rhein.

My parents did this tour. Sometimes they are at a predetermined restaurant and sometimes they actually got euros when they disembarked in the am to use towards lunch. They used vantage.
