How could this happen!! UPDATED
So last week or so I posted that we got the short sale we put an offer in on. Everything was set, we were just waiting for a closing date. Well today I get a call from my attorney's office saying the other attorney is not returning any of their phone calls and they think we didn't get the house after all.
How can they make a mistake like this? I dont get it. Why would they tell us we got it if they weren't 100% sure. And then instead of telling us they just ignore all my attorney's calls? They have been speaking with the secretary but she won't tell them anything.
I'm so upset!
UPDATE
We got it for sure ! My attorney has the approval in her possession. They thought we didn't bc the attorney was ignoring them but turns out everything is fine. I wish they figured that out before they called and stressed me out! Anyways we are closing in 3 weeks. Woo Hooo

Re: How could this happen!!
The OP is trying to purchase a short sale, so the contract between the seller and buyer are subject to bank approval -- i.e., pretty meaningless until the bank who has the seller's mortgage approves the sale. She heard last week that the bank gave approval.
To OP - What made you believe that the bank approved the short sale? What was the souce of that info? And why is your attorney now assuming that the bank didn't actually give approval and that it was a "mistake"? Whose mistake?
Do you know who is handling all communications/negotiations with the bank? Is it the seller's attorney, listing agent, an outside short sale company/processor, etc.? If it's not the seller's attorney, then I would have your lawyer or your real estate agent (if you have one) contract the person who is dealing with the bank to find out what the story is.
Is your attorney experienced with short sales?

Re: How could this happen!!
when the bank approved a short sale they give you a letter and closing instructions- I never consider a short sale approved until this is in my hands
I got a verbal approval on 1 3 weeks ago- I am still waiting on the letter
I would for a copy of the approval letter- your mortgage company would need a copy of it to proceed with the loan
