Cablevision and tipping

Cablevision is coming to my house to pull the cable which is only on one side of the house in one bedroom to the whole otherside (farm ranch house, so it's long).

It costs $39.95.

I need him to snake through the walls so my tv can be mounted on the wall. The cable guy on the phone hinted "oh he may not be able to do that, we aren't really allowed" and I mentioned "How much is normal to tip?" and he was like "well if the job exceeds your expectations..."

So reading between the lines, if I tip do you think I can get him to run the wire through the wall and also mount my tv?

And how much should I tip $50, $100?

Thanks!

he may want to run it outside and then bring it in closer. I think it depends on how much time/effort is involved. If it only takes him 15-20 minutes... I think $25 would be nice.

I agree with $25 or so. I would probably judge it on how worht it it is for you. If it's absolutely something that you could never do or would take up a lot of time then I would tip more. If it's just something that would be nice if he did for you then I wouldn't go as nuts with a tip.

Re: Cablevision and tipping

Why cant they do that

They ran it in our house....through the ceiling and closets

We needed them to run a wire last week so we could move our computer downstairs. I didnt tip at all. The guy was here for 30 mins and did his job. I paid $40 to have them do work why should I give them an Over 50% tip? lol Guess its just me

Re: Cablevision and tipping

A regular cable tech is not permitted to snake wires. They have a special crew that does this. However if the tech thinks he can do it then I would tip him appropriately. That being said if an electrician did this it would cost you well over $100. If he does a good job I think he would appreciate a $50 tip. This of course is my opinion.

Apparently they are not supposed to snake wires behind the walls, I am not sure why. Yes it is costing $39.95 per Cablevision. So normally you don't have to tip for services, but I am figuring he is going to go above and beyond and do something he isn't really allowed to do. But from speaking with other people it seems they do this all the time, so I know I have to tip, just wasn't sure what was appropriate!

Thanks guys.
