Apartment People- Especially those with "shared" balconies...

What do you have up to make your balcony more private and secluded?

My new neighbors have a dog who constantly barks and growls at my DH and I when we are outside on our balcony, and when the dog's left unattended out on their side, he puts his paws up on the separation railing and tries to jump over.

I've contact my rental office and explained the situation, but we aren't allowed to install any type of privacy lattice like I originally wanted. I'm running out of ideas, and patience with these people!!!

here's a picture of our balcony and separation railing from last year. We plan on going to Home Depot tomorrow to get our spring flowers, and I'm thinking of maybe purchasing tall shrubs or greenery. This is a first for us, and I'm hoping that if the dog can't see us, then maybe he'll calm down and leave us alone.

I would try to get a tall bush (or three) to line across that fence area.

What about getting dog treats and giving them to the dog when it's out? I don't know what dog etiquette is for something like that.

I would def think bushes would do it. Thats too bad you cant put the privacy wall up...I would be mad about that! Esp when My child is out and the dog is on the other side!

The dog will definitely still try to do stuff. We have a 6 ft. fence around our entire backyard and my dog will bark or whine when he hears my neighbors. You can put the plants to line that side of your fence. I would not recommend dog treats. You don't know if this dog has any allergies or want the dog to start begging every time it's outside when you're there. I would be pissed if my neighbor gave my dog treats. Sorry they aren't being more considerate. Are you friendly with them? Can you tell them the dog has made attempts to jump over the fence and you're concerned for it's safety?

I have same issue with my house. My neighbors outside sit outside and look right into my sliding glass door and when we are outside eating or gardening I get the commentary from them which is driving me nuts. We looked into shrubs but it is costly and we don't get good light and have really dry soil/sandy and shrubs we had didn't take and died. We are looking into privacy panels like this
