Japanese hair straightening was a no go
Went to hair ib . I had highlights done last August, and they wouldn't do the jhs. They Wanted to do the keratin on my hair instead but I wasn't sure about it. It's not permanent and they told me it could wash out any time. It was also more money then the jhs. Le sigh
Signed,
Very puffy, fluffy, and big hair

Re: Japanese hair straightening was a no go
I've never done the jhs. I have done the keratin. I get it done every summer. No it does not make your hair straight, but it def takes out the frizz and makes it 100 times easier to blow out. My hair stays nice even when it's really humid. I'm going to get it done the beginning of June. The one I have done will last me all summer.

Re: Japanese hair straightening was a no go
I did the jhs years ago and it destroyed my hair bc I had highlights. They were right for not doing it. I have since been doing the keratin and I LOVE it. My hair is healthy and no pin striaght but straight and I have super curly fluffly frizzy natural hair. Def reconsider, mine lasts 6 months and I use the keratin shampoo & conditioner and a little mousse for volume.

Re: Japanese hair straightening was a no go
They were correct with not doing it. The first time I ever got JHS I had highlights (1 yr old highlights) and it destroyed my hair.
I now no longer highlight my hair bc I gt JSH once a year. However this is going to be a spin off to another post for me

JHS is very harsh on your hair and that's why they wouldn't do it with your highlights. It'll fry your hair and destroy it.

Re: Japanese hair straightening was a no go
They didn't ask you about highlights when you made your appointment?? Both times they asked me on the phone before I came in.
And both times when I got there, they insisted my hair was highlighted and I insisted they do it anyway and my hair was not damaged (any more than 25 years of coloring and daily blow drying & ironing has done). One time it had been well over a year and I had my hair cut very short and grown out so there was no way there were any except maybe at the very ends.

Re: Japanese hair straightening was a no go
I was one of the first people to get JHS back in 2002
I have been getting keratin for 2 years now and I am MUCH happier with the results
I actually don't even blow out anymore most days- I braid it and let it air dry- I get awesome, frizz free waves with very little effort ( I do blow the front and curl the ends a bit so it will blend in once it's dry)

Re: Japanese hair straightening was a no go
I have had both done and I can honestly say I've hated the keratin. Biggest waste of money for me! I have extremely thick hair and it looked good for two weeks. After two weeks my hair was back to being a total frizzy mess. I loved the japanese and plan on getting it done in a few weeks. My mother has been getting the japanese for the past 6 yrs (she gets it done once a year in May) and she has had no issues either. Love being able to walk out of the shower and not having to style my hair.

Re: Japanese hair straightening was a no go
I had the same experience there, and they are right.
I first had JHS done in 2002 and it ruined by hair. I had a lump fall out and a bald spot on top. (You couldn't see it, but i could feel it.)
Then my hair dye grew out, and I had JHS done from 2004-2007, and it was beautiful. I have never loved my hair more. Silky, shiny, straight hair.
Then DH wanted to see me with waves, so I went awhile without it. Then I got PG, and then PG again, and it was 2010 and I was hating my hair. but, by then I had some grays, and went with keratin because you can color your hair with that. I had it done twice. both times i loved it for the first 1-2 weeks (not as much as the JHS, but still really liked it), but after two weeks, it wasn't as impressive. I tried to do JHS again, but they said if i am dying my hair, it will dry it out too much and won't look nice. So, I haven't done anything and am back to hating my hair. I enjoyed having nice hair for 3 years of my life :)
