Questions about IF Treatments and Vacation
Do you not going on vacation when you are going through treatments? Do you plan trips around your cycle? Do you take a month off if you know you are going to be away? If you are only going away for a few days during the month, can you "salvage" the month??
Interested in your thoughts and experiences!

Re: Questions about IF Treatments and Vacation
I have not taken any trips since we started actively TTC...we are going away next month at the tail end of my cycle if this cycle is a bust...I think it all depends on what IF treatments you are having and when they fall in the cycle...I hear with IVF you are pretty much a slave to the schedule and monitoring appts...with IUI cycles it all depends on when and how long
I cannot believe that I have not gone away in close to a yr ...I was supposed to go to DC to visit my family but it fell during an IUI cycle and I just skipped it cause I didnt know when I would have the IUI...also I was going to go to DC for memorial but it also may fall potentially during an IUI cycle so I asked my family to come to NY to visit us...I would just feel sad to miss a cycle.

Re: Questions about IF Treatments and Vacation
Although in my experience I was able to fit an IUI around a vacation, that was completely unexpected and only happened because my cycle started earlier than I expected. If it had come on time it wouldn't have worked at all because of the monitoring.
It depends on the type of treatment you are getting, but I would not plan a trip unless you are willing to sit that cycle out. Maybe you won't have to which was a nice surprise for me, but we were ready and planning to skip it to go on our trip.
The last thing I'll say is....IF is so stressful. I am so glad we decided to plan a trip, it was so needed!

Re: Questions about IF Treatments and Vacation
In the very beginning of this journey, IVF literally ruled my life, consumed my mind and all of my time. That was my choice and as I came to realize, a very poor one. I wasn't happy not living my life, taking spontaneous road trips, going on vacation and traveling with my family. That's what made me happy and I needed to be happy. So I made an effort to plan things if I could, the best I could around my cycles. If I couldn't, I some how made it work like changing my flight for Ireland to leave two days after my 5dt. Other times, I took a break so I could really enjoy vacation. So to answer your question, I think it depends what type of vacation and what treatments youre doing but try to keep in mind that you have to be happy and live your life too!

Re: Questions about IF Treatments and Vacation
I feel like the process comes with lots of forced breaks... between IVF/FETs you're on the pill for 3wks in between (well, I was at least) .. After a loss I was forced to wait 2 months to start over... So, I used those times to take vacations.
The last cruise we took, I literally planned 2 weeks before leaving.

ITA.
If you're in the middle of a cycle, especially IVF, you cannot travel. The RE will not let you start if you won't be in town for the entire cycle (usually around 6-8 weeks). For IUI, it's a little easier since the 2ww is mostly just waiting.

Re: Questions about IF Treatments and Vacation
uggghh..don't get me started on this topic. We had planned a trip to Vegas last October and a Cruise for June that we booked in December. Obviously, back then, we had no idea wwe would be heading down the IF path.
We can't not go on either of the trips because, especially the cruise, we got such a dirt cheap price on it, its non refundable (and we really wanna go )
I thik DH was more upset that we had to miss a cycle in March than I was. This month, we are going away for a weekend trip next week and it falls on the day i'm supposed to go in for an IUI. so we will be doing TI instead.
Hopefully i won't get AF next month, but if i do, depending on when i get it, i might be on the cruise when AF comes and i'll miss that cycle too
DH and I already decided that we would not be planning any more trips now that we are trying to get into the full swing of things
