Re: Las Vegas Hotels
There are so many great hotel options.
Personally, for my first trip, I would stay mid-strip - I would look at Ballys, Paris, Caesars, Mirage, Planet Hollywood, Bellagio (tho honestly the rooms are not worth the cost IMO). Mirage has a great pool.
I love Mandalay Bay but for my first trip I think mid-strip is the best - you can walk easily to ALL of the other hotels.

Re: Las Vegas Hotels
DH stayed at Mirage for his bach. party in 2010. I had also planned to stay there, but didn't want to do the same thing DH did. We wound up staying at MGM and loved it, even though it's towards the end of the strip. Either way, you'll have a blast!

Re: Las Vegas Hotels
It depends on your budget, but I agree about staying mid-strip. The Cosmopolitan is amazing and that would be my first choice. Also, Bellagio, Paris, Planet Hollywood, Mirage, Caesars Palace, Venetian...all great in a great location!

Re: Las Vegas Hotels
I'm staying at Cosmopolitan in 3 weeks for a bachelorette. I think it is supposed to be the newest hottest hotel. We splurged and got the 2 bedroom terrace suite. It just opened and it is next to Bellagio.
A few yrs ago, Wynn was the hottest and I loved it.
DH stayed at Encore a few months ago and he didn't like it that much. It is also one of the newer hotels.

Re: Las Vegas Hotels
Stay at the Flamingo and ask for a room on the strip so you can see the Bellagio fountain show with a great view.
If you're into pool parties though - mandalay bay is good choice.

We did this for new years and it was amazing! we also got to see the best fireworks show at cesars from our room at the flamingo.
Our room was up to date and nice. We stayed there for free for 5 nights because we gamble at the ballys casino in AC with our total rewards card.

Re: Las Vegas Hotels
Been to Vegas 3 times. Stayed at the Luxor, Paris and Ballys.
Ballys and Paris were awesome. Ballys is the best value for your money, rooms are cheap, you are right in the center of the strip, and with a Total Rewards card, you get points and perks. Since we stayed at Ballys, we used our Rewards card to see about 6 shows over 3 days- all for only $115 or so...including the Beatles LOVE show which was AMAZING...
I was not super duper impresssed with Paris. I stayed there last year, paid a lot for a room but the beds were hard, the remote control for the TV was broken (they did replace it) and the furniture really outdated. Plus the restaurants in the lobby level are ALWAYS packed!
Luxor is nice but it's all the way at the end of the strip.
There is no need to rent a car- everything is within walking distance. You can take the Deuce bus which is $14 for a 24 hr pass (takes you all the way down to Fremont street). There are so many shows to see, and most are free (the Sirens at Treasure Island, the volcano at Mirage, the roller coaster at NY, NY, the Bellagio fountains, the 10 min shows inside Ceasars Palace)... Just grab one of those "What to See and Do in Vegas" Guides at any hotel front desk and you will have tons to pick from!

Re: Las Vegas Hotels
I say Mirage where you are close to everything and the rooms are not as expensive as some others.

Re: Las Vegas Hotels
i havent been there in a few years and i know a few new hotels opened up. when i used to go, i would stay at mirage or treasure island. they were very well priced and nice hotels. i cant see spending a ton of money to stay at the bellagio or somewhere just for the name. in reality you dont spend much time in your room but you also dont want to stay in a bad hotel

Re: Las Vegas Hotels
It def does of course depend on your budget but being central on the strip is prob of high priority... We rented a car so it didnt matter where we were... We stayed at 3 diff hotels in 1 trip actually: golden nugget which is in downtown vegas- off the strip, the wynn (which was simply amazing and so high class) which is at the end of the strip, and harrahs which is on the low end price wise but right in the middle of all the action

Re: Las Vegas Hotels
We love Vegas and go almost every other year.
For your first time, definitely try to stay mid-strip so that you are within walking distance to it all. Bally's is actually a good value - right in the middle and priced well and the rooms are comfortable. The Flamingo is also very nice and has a great pool area and is also very affordable. We usually stay at the MGM, which is at the end of the strip but there is a shuttle that goes up and down and/or you can walk.

Re: Las Vegas Hotels
The Wynn is my favorite - it's beautiful, and I like the atmosphere there - I didn't see anyone walking around in a $5 pair of hooker shoes .......But it's more expensive. You can get rooms at a good rate, but everything else there is a bit more money
We stayed in the Bellagio on our last trip in March and I HATED it - for the cost per night it was nothing special AT ALL, I didn't like the layout, the bars were 'eh' - just overall disappointed.

Re: Las Vegas Hotels
We stayed at three hotels in Vegas. Our face was the hard Rock hotel. They had the best drinks, parties and I loved the pool! It's off the strip, but we rented a car since we wanted to drive to the grand canyon and the dam. It's was a great vacation,

Re: Las Vegas Hotels
I've stayed in the following:
Luxor: Really enjoyed the jacuzzi in the suite.
Excalibur: Was so so; was told after the fact to ask for a room in the renovated tower
Planet Hollywood: Was cool but a little loud
Rio: Loved this one even though it was off the strip.
Bellagio: Gorgeous room; only stayed because it was a comp room. Otherwise too expensive for me.

Re: Las Vegas Hotels
We stayed at the Venetian. It was AMAZING. All suites. Gorgeous. Beautiful pool area. And i liked that although it was on the strip, it wasn't mid strip. It was a quieter location yet still walking distance to all the strip attractions.

Re: Las Vegas Hotels
I haven't been in 10 years but stayed at Paris. Great location - nice views if you get the ones facing the strip. If I had to go again, I'd stay at Ceasars or Bellagio. Really, you can't go wrong with any hotel in Vegas, IMO. :)

Re: Las Vegas Hotels
I have stayed at Mirage, Paris and Excalibur.
They are all great, Excalibur is one of the older hotels though, but the room was super cheap.
Paris I think was the best b/c it was Mid-strip but Mirage had a nicer pool area.
My parents have also stayed at Monte Carlo and loved it.

Re: Las Vegas Hotels
I've stayed at Treasure Island, Mandalay Bay and most recently Bellagio.
I thought the same thing a lot are saying that that Bellagio is so expensive, BUT we managed to book the Bellagio and our flights through Southwest Vacations flying out of MacArthur and got a HUGE discount on the room, we're talking like 150 a night which is ridiculously cheap. We LOVED it. We also got show tickets to a cirque de solie show included with our package. I would definitely look into this, through the South West website.
