Advice Spinoff

I've never actually said that but I've certainly felt that way. Especially when you feel you know what will resolve the issue and the person just won't do it - or they keep dragging the problem on and on with something they are doing (or not doing).
But I've never actually had to say something like that because they usually realize or do something about the problem by then.

Depends on who does it and what the topic is. For example, I have a friend who always vents about her weight. Sometimes it is tiresome, but I also know that I am the only one she feels comfortable talking to about it. So I listen, and try to be a good friend, even though I have heard it all before.

Yes - just yesterday I told my FSIL that I couldn't hear her whine about work anymore - - I've given her as much advice as I can, and she's chosen not to do anything with it. I told her that I'd be willing to help/talk - but only after she's taken the initiative beyond her constant complaining.
She didn't like hearing it - but I told her that I don't like hearing the same BS from her day after day.
Mean? No - just honest!

Yes, I have - it ruined our friendship and I haven't spoken to her since. I have to tell you - I don't miss her - or the complaining...it was always the same thing over and over and over again.....what a nightmare!!

I had a friend who was dating this guy who treated her like crap. Cheated on her over and over.
She would constantly call me crying but after months of this i couldn't take it anymore and told her that i couldn't listen anymore. She actually understood! She still called though

i have a friend like that now. Shes had been dating this real azzhole for almost 5 years. if i told her i couldnt listen anymore she would probably never speak to me again. And this is one of my best friends- for 13 years.. and I would never want to end our friendship. Do I get sick of her venting and crying about the same thing yes- but in this cas ei keep it to myself. she knows when i start to get annoyed with the issue and she backs off and changes the conversation.

Same here. There are times I have felt that way, but yet I alsways imagine a time when I can be annoying as all H ell , and I cave and listen some more.

YES!!! I feel like: Sh@t or get off the pot! Crude, but I can't help it. I have never said anything about it. I'm sure some of my friends feel the same about me and my issues. So I try to be as patient with them as they are with me.
