Is shelac worth it?

I am going for a mani/ pedi on Saturday. Is it worth it to get the shelac? I have a special day on Tuesday and want to look nice so I am splurging.

Thanks

I ended up getting it. It was a polish. There was no filing. I'm in love. My nails look great!

Re: Is shelac worth it?

If you want it to last more than 2 days- HELL to the YES
Mine lasted almost 3 weeks.
If not for the major grow out it could have went longer.

there is laquer and there is shellac. the one that they paint on with a brush (sort of like a gel) is MUCH more brutal on your nails because its harder to get off. the one that comes in a nail polish bottle soaks off in 5 mins and doesnt ruin your nails.

Re: Is shelac worth it?

I found it make my nails weaker, and I hated soaking it off. ( I found it annoying) but if you only do it once then its worth it.

Same here. I will never go back to regular polish now.

Same for me. I did it about 4 times, keeping it on at least 2 weeks each time. The first 2 times it looked amazing. The 3rd time it was chipping and I think that was because my nails were so damaged. The 4th time looked horrible, and when I finally had it taken off my nails were just destroyed. It took about 2 months for them to get stronger and look nicer.

ITA. The one in the little pot with the brush is OPI gel i believe. That stuff is terrible - thicker and impossible to get off.

The ones in the nail polish bottle are
Shellac or Gelish. Both are awesome. Go on like regular polish, come off pretty easily, and i've never had any damage from them.

I say absolutely go for it!!

Exactly
Avoid Gel.
Ask for CND Shellac and make sure that is what you get.

Re: Is shelac worth it?

It is definitely an awesome thing...not chipping for 2 maybe 3 weeks, but when they take it off, they soak your nails for a bit and then scrap off the rest. Due to that process, the nails tend to weaken. In fact, I've been doing the Shellac for over 2 months now and just cut down my nails and got a regular mani last night. My nails are weaker and there are some spots where my nails are splitting which has NEVER been a problem for me before :(
