Over the counter or prescription prenatal vitamins?
Any opinions on which are better? I've been taking over the counter prenatal vitamins (Centrum), but was also given a prescription by my RE for them with extra folic acid.
Thoughts?

Re: Over the counter or prescription prenatal vitamins?
My RE gave me a rx for prenatals. I compared them to the OTC ones I was using previously. The main difference is the amount of folic acid. What I found interesting is that the OTC ones actually have higher doses of all of the other vitamins. I'd think I could just take the OTC prenatals and take an additional folic acid pill along with it.
Don't forget that doctors get incentives to prescribe.
That said, I'm sticking with the rx prenatals. Nothing has been going well, so I figure I should just stick with whatever I'm told to do.
ETA: I take Vitafol-One and haven't had any side effects.

Re: Over the counter or prescription prenatal vitamins?
I use the prescription ones because they only cost me $5 for a 3 months supply... The OTC ones can get pricey.

Re: Over the counter or prescription prenatal vitamins?
I personally only use the OTC ones. I was prescribed ones by my gyn when I first began TTC, and those made me feel sick to my stomach- plus they smelt and tasted like fish . Used them for 3 days, then threw them out

I use the prescription ones which is cheaper than the over the counter. I have a separate DHA pill and their is a stool softener in the vitamin which is great since most prenatal make you constipated.

I currently take TheraNatal, as RX'ed by my RE.
I don't like them so I'm going to switch. I think I'm allergic to something in them.

Re: Over the counter or prescription prenatal vitamins?
I have been using OTC but my dr gave me a script that I'll try when my OTC is finished. My dr said they are all about the same
