Nail polish?

I was at work today and a nosey co-worker pointed out my new mani and said how nail polish can cause birth defects. After I told her my Dr. ,who is in the medical field and not just watches and listens to whatever the newest report is ,told me its completely safe.

But of course now I am second guessing myself...has anyone else heard this or did u just cont to get your weekly manis??
Thanks!

I've heard it's safe. I hope so! I've been painting my nails every week.

Re: Nail polish?

from what I saw online there are certain brands free of 3 chemicals...... I believe Revlon was a safe brand....and of course it said to do it in a well ventilated area - preferably by an open window.

Re: Nail polish?

I use Zoya brand - it's formaldehyde free and also free of other bad chemicals. Better to be safe in my opinion....there are plenty of chemicals we're unknowingly exposed to why expose ourselves to anything intentionally IMO.

ETA: I buy this brand at Ulta and there is also a salon I go to that uses it.

I found this on their website: the first to remove toxic ingredients such as toluene, camphor, formaldehyde and DBP (dibutyl phthalate) from its formulations...

Re: Nail polish?

When I was pregnant I started using a formaldehyde free one because I went for manis almost every week. The brand was Jessica. Although... from everything I've always read, the real issue with manis is making sure the place is well ventilated! Chat Icon

Re: Nail polish?

My ob says that manicures and pedicures are totally fine. She said it at the beginning, and said it again today, at 32 weeks, when I double-checked. She is giving birth soon, and has been going for them regularly!

Re: Nail polish?

My personal OB said it's fine to get my nails done & hair dyed as well as the OB that I work for. Now, I've only had a mani/pedi 4x in the past 8 months & don't dye my hair so I wasn't really concerned.

Re: Nail polish?

It's fine. I've never heard that it's not okay.

Tell your co-worker to shove off. It's not like your eating the nail polish.

Re: Nail polish?

there was a report on this last week, that even though it was thought to be safe for so long, new research shows that it is not

I stopped wearing nail polish. The less chemical exposure, the better.
