I feel like I've been hit by a bus
My first IVF cycle was another chemical. Had the beta today and it was negative. Not much of a surprise as the hpt were fading to nothing over the last few days. Dr. said that she wants to bring in Dr. Brenner and Dr. Keningsberg (not sure of the spelling) to look over my chart because my embryos were not great quality...one good and one fair out of 7 fertilized. She said the embryologist had concerns about how slow they grew and how some ceased to grow at all. She said I may have embryos that don't grow well in the labs artifical conditions. She told me she would get back to me in a week or two after they've reviewed my chart because she is not sure what steps to take next. Her concerns about the quality of my embryos has me very worried...she seemed to say without actually saying that I may not be an IVF candidate. So where do we go from here???? DH wants to keep trying unitl it works but I am scared because to go through this again and get the same result....I just don't know if I can do it. This is my 3rd loss in 13 months. Any thoughts from those of you out there who've had similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't been in your position, but I wanted to say I'm very sorry for what you're going through. For me, no matter what any doctor says, I'd never give up without going to Cornell. Wait and see what your RE says in a couple of weeks.

So sorry this happened to you... I hope that they change things up a little so you don't feel like you're doing the same thing that doesn't work over and over

Re: I feel like I've been hit by a bus
i think you NEED to see Dr. B or an RE that specializes in multiple losses. IMO if an RE says that your embies "don't do well under lab conditions" then that RE has a cr@ppy lab.. IMO that is absolutely not an excuse - with the exception being if you are over 40 or have very high FSH. if you have had three losses in 13 months you owe it to yourself and your DH to figure out WHY. continuing cycles without figuring out the cause won't change the results because you need to treat the root cause(s). someone like dr. B or Dr. T @ SIRM in NYC can do that for you.

I'm so sorry! If I were you, I would consult with Dr. Braverman. I wouldn't give up, but I would do whatever it takes to see Dr. Braverman before moving forward. My thoughts and prayers are with you!

Re: I feel like I've been hit by a bus
I'm sorry for your losses. I know it must be difficult to hear your doctor say "I have no answers". If my RE said that to me, you would see skid marks on the ground. I agree with PP, get another opinion.
My first IVF cycle at one clinic (RMANY), I was told that all my embryos fertilized abnormally and were multi-nucleated (what the heck is that I had asked). I was so upset. Now looking back I know that 1) they were immature and 2) they let them fertilize on their own without helping them with ICSI. Which means because they were immature the eggs let more than one swimmer in causing more than one nuclei. When I changed clinics (and to be honest I am on my 4th RE and I have learned a lot)...anyway...I never had an issue with abnormal fertilization or multi-nucleated embryos.
Did they test you for blood clotting disorders? You could also have an immune issue. I know changing clinics is horrible and takes time etc... but you can't go through this again. You need more answers and telling you that they have none is not good enough.
Good luck!

Just wanted to let you know an egg can have 2 nuclei, even when fertilized with with 1 sperm via ICSI. My IVF cycle we only did ICSI and one of my embryos had 2 nuclei. This sometimes just happens and it's nature's way of weeding out a bad embryo.

Re: I feel like I've been hit by a bus
so sorry you're going through this, i have never had a loss but i did have an issue with my embryos not doing well. I had 11 fertilized but after a day 5 transfer i had nothing to freeze. That cycle was a BFN. I was scared at the thought of having to use donor eggs. My RE (Dr. Brenner) said he would discuss my case with another RE at the office, they decided to make very minor changes to my protocol and it was such a big difference! This time around i actually have 8 frozen and i got my BFP.
dont get discouraged, wait to see what they decide. And like PP said...get another opinion if you need. I dont like the response that they didnt do well in the lab either. Sounds like they just didnt know what to say.
