A little nervous - C-cection?

Went to doctor today..i had the proactive doctor..when she heard the baby was breach at 26 weeks, she had me do a sono right away..turns out baby is still breach..doctor said i can either schedule a c-section or they can try to turn the baby....when i asked what was involved with turning the baby, i kind of got freaked out (no way i'm doing that!) I asked if I could wait to see if the baby turns, so she told me to come in next week for another sono. I just have a feeling baby won't turn...BUT, i'm deathly afraid of a c-section. Can someone tell me what its like..how bad is recovery and what about the scar? I REALLY don't want one..Please baby turn, turn, turn!!!

By the way i'm 34.5 weeks.

Re: A little nervous - C-cection?

I had a planned c/s with DS, and I have to have another one this time. I have to say, I had absolutely NO problems at all!!! It was only surgery ever so I was extremely nervous and imagining everything possible, I watch too much greys anatomy lol. My ob was really amazing! The surgery started about 9:30am and he was out at 10:17am. I think I was more nervous about sitting still for the spinal more than anything. I coldn't stop shaking. They were able to give me something bc I was actually starting to have a panic attack. Everything went so smoothly though. The recovery was not terrible. I only had pain in the hospital, but thats what the meds are for. Once I got home I think I took the medication for maybe 2 days then motrin afterwards. If you have any questions please FM me! Re: A little nervous - C-cection?

my baby was breach at 28 w - im 32 now and hes no longer breached. they can turn up until the last few weeks. I wouldnt have them try to turn the baby - its possible he can just turn back! Besides, they say the baby doesnt get ready for "birthing position," until 32ish weeks

Re: A little nervous - C-cection?

I have had two c sections. The first one was because Lara just didnt want to come out and the second one for Aidan was scheduled. Honestly its a breeze. The surgery part is over so quick takes about a total of 20 minutes.

the nurse gives you an iv. You walk into the or, you will get a spinal. You lean over and you feel a tiny little pinch. You will lose feeling from about your chest down. After the spinal is given your dh is allowed to enter the o.r.

The doctors will tell you what is happening as they work on you. You never feel pain just a lot of pushing and tugging IT DOESNT HURT.

Honestly it goes so fast. In about 20 minutes you will hear your baby cry. They will hand the baby to your dh. You cant handle the baby until in recovery.

With Lara i had a lot of pain during the recovery but that is because i didnt walk when the nurses told me too. So please walk as soon as they tell you it will hurt but will speed up the process immensly.

With Aidan my recovery was FANTASTIc

and the scar is right above my bikini line and it fades its nothing to be nervous about.

I went through the same thing around 37 weeks the baby became breech but by the next week she turned. Hope your little one does the same, I don't know if it helped but i would go on my hands and knees for about a half hour every night to help the baby turn.

Re: A little nervous - C-cection?

My csection was great with dd and it was an emergency csec. My recovery was easy. I was only umcomfy for about 2 days and I only took motrin for pain. Was back to feel completely normal about a week after. I can barely see my scar.

Re: A little nervous - C-cection?

I read on the birth story threads of someone trying acupuncture to turn and it worked.

Baby can still turn but if you want to try all options.......

Re: A little nervous - C-cection?

I had a c-section because DD simply wouldn't come out.

In all honestly, it was a breeze. You feel pressure, but no pain and they tell you everything they're doing and you feel nothing at all. It took like all of 20 minutes and the scar is so small and it fades. Recovery was a breeze and I was back on my feet in no time.

Re: A little nervous - C-cection?

I had a c-section in 2008 and I had a pretty good experience. My scar is very little and very thin.

My recovery was pretty good too. I was in the hospital 4 days, but once home I felt much better. In about 2 weeks I was close to being back to normal.

Good luck to you! And try not to worry!

Re: A little nervous - C-cection?

I had an emergency c section cause DS just wouldn't come out. I was up walking as soon as they took my catheter out. I checked put of the hospital a day early. Never took any pain med except for a Motrin for a head (nothing to do with section). And have had zero pain since. I would get another one in a second. My scar is tiny. I can't even imagine how dS fit through it. It's so low no one wil see it and I could (if my fat ass would fit in one) wear a tiny bikini.

Don't listen to the horror stories. There are plenty of great c section stories

Now on flipping the baby. My sister had it done. They tried a few times to turn her son and he just wouldn't flip. He did once and clearly didn't like to be on his head cause he flipped right back. Another friend had it done and it worked but durin the flipping the cord wrapped around the neck 2x and tightly and she ended up with a section anyway
Also be prepared for a section if you go in for the flipping cause it puts stress on the baby and of its too much they wil take the baby right then

Re: A little nervous - C-cection?

I heard turning the baby is painful, my csection was fine, I skipped a few doses of pain meds which was a bad mistake!! Takevmedicine when they give it to band it'll be a breeze, walk when ur allowed to as well.

all true!!!! had two sections also for the same reasons.....the only problem is the recovery and for some they bounce right back for others it can take a lil longer but overall they give you 8wks but i think for me i felt myself completely by the 2nd wk with occasionally pain here and there until maybe the 5th wk or so.....the surgery itself is nothing to be scared about like above poster its verrrrry fast.....and as for the scar if i had the balls i would sooooo post a pic of mine its literally non-existent and thats after two!!!!!! so don't worry about that at all....all the luck!!!!!

Re: A little nervous - C-cection?

Baby can turn anytime ~ My son flipped from breach to position back to breach again. (but I was not doing the turn thing either) I landed up having a c-section it is not that bad ~ I had a bikini line and I can barely see the scar and my son is 3 1/2 yrs old ~ I am having another c-section with this baby. It took a couple of weeks to feel back to normal again but all in all it was not that bad!

I Chat Icon that your lo turns so you don't have to have a c-section and have the birth like you wanted! Chat Icon

Re: A little nervous - C-cection?

both my boys didn't turn until 36 weeks.

I wound up with a c-section with DS 2 because of his size. My recovery was actually not that bad. I was expecting worse. But I think I was one of the lucky ones. It's hard to tell how each woman will react.

Re: A little nervous - C-cection?

Thanks everyone for calming me down.

I'll just wait until my next app't and take it from there. Just wondering why my doctor would want to schedule a c-section now (will ask her), but why wounldn't we just wait until i go into labor and then see if the baby flipped at that point. Hmm....

They will always schedule the csection. They do not want you going into labor if the baby has not flipped. You do not know how quick it could be and could cause complications. Schedule the Csection and see if the baby flips between now and then.

Depending on the hospital she may be scheduling just to get you on the schedule (get a better time etc)

My first DS, who was born at 9lbs14oz and 22.5inhces long, didnt turn until 34+ weeks, so it can still happen.

As far as recovery, first cs was GREAT, didnt take any pain meds felt great.
Second was also good, I was a little more uncomfy, had a "burn" from the surgical tape and was achy in the hospital bed. I did take some pain meds but by 7 days pp was off them all and felt just as good as my first cs. I just needed to be home!!!

GL, dont worry.

PS a family member tried the turning, it was painful and she wound up with a cs anyway as the baby's heartrate became elevated.
I wouldnt try it personally!
