Exercise and placenta previa.

They told me no lifting and to take it easy if I have spotting but can you still do light exercise with placenta previa. I want to do pregnancy pilates and maybe 15 minutes a day of elliptical. They never mentioned restrictions but I plan to ask tomorrow when I call about another issue.

Or should just wait til I'm 12 weeks to be safe? I just need to tone up and really stretch to feel good again. I feel so stiff because I feel like I'm constantly "taking it easy".

Re: Exercise and placenta previa.

i wouldnt excercise at all.

i had previa and started bleeding at 14 weeks.

actually i found out at 11 weeks and was told no excercise and pelvic rest.
i said is walking okay and he said not treadmill or elliptical.

i know many docs would say its okay.. but previa can move around and if you get a bleed it can be super scary and why risk it?
i would ask your doctor specifically about what he considers light kwim?

i pretty much have sat on my fat arse this whole pg. first bc it was ivf..then bc it was previa...then because at the point i was given the ok to excercise again...i was so paranoid from all the shiit that had happened that walking around at work is enough for me.

but you wouldnt want to see my thighs kwim! lol

Re: Exercise and placenta previa.

How do they know you have placenta previa already if you're not even 12 weeks yet? It's very common at the beginning for the placenta to be close to or covering your cervix because of the position of the uterus so early. Usually your doctor would tell you what measures should be taken to protect yourself and the baby based on how far along you are and what they mean by telling you that you have placenta previa.

With #1 - I was told I had placenta previa at my 12 w sono and at my 19 week sono it had moved up and away almost entirely. By 28 weeks, it was completely cleared. I worked out the entire time I was pregnant (although I had such bad m/s I took it easy the first trimester) and never had any spotting at all.

I would 100% DEFINITELY follow the advice of your doctor and if you don't know what he/she has to say about it,
make a phone call before you go and do anything. These matters can be very serious and it's not worth taking any sorts of risks when it comes to your health and the health of your baby. Your OB should be able to confidently tell you whether pilates or yoga is advisable based on your situation.

I'm 8.5 weeks and one baby is on the cervix causing spotting and subcorionic bleed. They said this will change as the uterus grows but both my OB and Kofinas said its previa. They said pelvic rest, no lifting but nothing about exercise. They didnt say bedrest either but just take it easy if I'm spotting. Im definitley not doing anything tonight (except sitting my fat arse on the couch with some easter candy and an apple for good measure lol). I'm just feeling guilty like I should be exercising since Ive been eating well. And also because I sit so much that Im stiff.

This is pretty much how I know I'll be and why I feel guilty like Im not healthy if I'm not active. Im OBVIOUSLY not going to exercise if it can hurt the babies because the whole reasong for wanting to exercise is to help them and me be healthier. I was just curious since they never said no and didn't really give any restrictions other than pelvic rest and lifting.Chat Icon

Re: Exercise and placenta previa.

kofinas only told me bedrest for a week when i had bleeding. after the bleeding stopped it was just pelvic rest and no excercise/lifting.
call tomorrow.
unless he told you bedrest...you shouldt have to be sore from sitting so much...you can move around go to the mall etc.
i would call kofinas tomorrow and see what he says is best

See they never said bedrest for a week when I had bleeding. I had some last night into this morning but very very little. So I pretty much sat on the couch all day in fear. Which may have contributed to the stiffness. I have to call tomorrow anyway about the metnax that my ins co wont cover so I'll ask. Im betting they just forgot tot tell me and they will say no. Its ok then I'll just revisit when I'm further along and it's cleared up. By then I'll be too large to move. Chat Icon
