Weight Gain

I asked my doctor on Thursday if i was gaining too much weight too fast and she looked at me like I had two heads. She said this is no time for a diet... I was just concerned about my weight gain because I was already heavy when I got preggers and now I'm at 16 weeks and I have gained 3.5lbs. I know it doesnt seem like much but I feel I will only get bigger and I want to be healthy for baby.

Am i being crazy?

at 16 weeks I was up more a lot than you! I wouldn't stress...your body has to do its thing in order to make a nice healthy baby!

Re: Weight Gain

well, you are crazy if your dieting.

you are not crazy to care about your weight and to be mindful of it.

I like using the thebabycorner.com's pregnancy weight gain calculator. You put in your pre-pregnancy weight, your height, your current weight, how many weeks pregnant you are and if you are carrying 1 or 2 babies and it tells you the weight range you should be at. You will be either within that range- or if you are lighter or heavier it will tell you how many pounds in either direction you are off from the average/target weight. It also breaks down where that weight is going on your body.

Re: Weight Gain

I'm definitely not dieting. I eat normally, i think I eat much better than I did before( because of cravings) and I know I'm eating less because I get nauseous when I eat too much so I spread my food out through the day.

Thanks for the website I'm going to check it out.

I think you are smart to care about how much you gain, once you are being healthy about it.

I think too many women use pregnancy as an opportunity to eat whatever they want in huge quantities which isn't good for their body.

Not to say that you don't indulge, but everything in moderation.

Re: Weight Gain

At 16 weeks I was up almost 20.

I am with your Dr. Do not focus on your weight.

Your body will gain what it wants no matter what you eat. I ate ice cream everyday for the last month and didn't gain a pound but the first tri I was sick as a dog and gain almost half my weight.

People focus too much on what they look like and their weight and it during Pregancny there isn't much you can do. it will be what it is.

THIS. Everyone's weight gain is different but based on where you started, this calculator is super helpful.

Thanks, I'm worried health wise and not how I look or what the outcome will be after I have baby. I just wanted to be healthy for baby and for myself. I'm scared of GD and other types of complications that might occur since I was considered obese. I do indulge but its like you said in moderation!

Re: Weight Gain

Please do not get crazy over your weight gain!...I gained 42lbs with #1 and had a 6lbs 9oz healty boy and lost all the weight plus 10lbs after. This time I am 10lbs lighter than I was with #1 and at 16 weeks I have already gained 8lbs.

I gain 3.5lbs when I eat Chinese food! Chat Icon

I wouldn't worry. I was at first but no matter what I do I gain weiight. There are a lot of girls on here that don't seem to gain and thats awesome. I feel like a heifer at 30 weeks being up 30 lbs! All I know is I am eating like I'm supposed to with very few 'indulgences'. As long as your doctor isn't worried I wouldn't be.
