How big you are vs how big baby is
Hi Ladies!
Last night I had a dream that I gave birth to an 11lb baby. To be quite honest, while I am aware that babies are born that size pretty often, it freaked me the f out! I'm on the smaller side and at 36w3d I'm up about 20-22lbs. DH and I were both between 7 and 8lbs when we were born. Is there still a possibility of me having a 9 or 10 lb baby? If you don't mind sharing, was there any relationship between how much you gained and how much the baby weighed?

Re: How big you are vs how big baby is
DH and I were both 8 lbs even at birth, however I was 3 weeks late (thank goodness they don't let that happen anymore, lol) and DH was 2 weeks late.
So if we were born on time we would have been around 6.5 lbs and 7 lbs. DD was 7 lbs 12 oz and only 3 days late.
ETA: I gained 40 lbs with DD

Re: How big you are vs how big baby is
I don't think you will have a baby that large AT ALL.
I am finishing up my 20th week and have gained 10 pounds so far.
DH was born big- Over 8 pounds but under 9 I think. I was born early, so I was very little maybe 3-4 pounds.
I am also scared of a large baby for some reason. I hope it is about 6 pounds. I think that sounds nice. But I have no idea. Don't the doctors estimate the weight in later visits? Did they make any guesses for you?

I do have a growth sono scheduled for next Thursday at 37w3d but I've had this on my mind all day after having the dream. Anything between 6 and 8lbs sounds reasonable to me but I don't think I get any say in the matter haha. Drives me crazy how little control we have over our own bodies. The little ones seem to make all the rules!

Re: How big you are vs how big baby is
I gained about 55lbs total and my baby weighed over 9lbs. If you're underweight prior to getting pregnant you will likely gain more and vice versa.

Re: How big you are vs how big baby is
Both myself and dh were over 9lbs at birth. I gained 30 and my ds was 10lb, 9oz. No one expected him to be THAT big but my dr did say due to his size at a growth soon and due to my birth weight he would likely be big. I think your birth weight does play a small part in it so if you were a smaller baby, I wouldnt stress it too much.

Re: How big you are vs how big baby is
I believe that YOUR and your DH's birth size is a better indicator of how big your baby will be.
My DH 6 lbs and something oz at birth (on time or maybe a smidge early). I was 8 lbs 6oz (big baby and a little late).
My DS was on track to being a 7+ lb baby (he was born prematurely though for unrelated reasons to size).
My second baby is on track to being an 8lb baby now at 35 weeks.
So they both fit into our average weights.
And for what it's worth, a tiny woman can have a very large baby and vice versa. But your birth size will give you an idea in general of how big baby might be.

Re: How big you are vs how big baby is
there is very little relationship between your weight gain and baby's weight..
i gained 35lbs, delivered at 33w, and my baby weighed 3lbs 8oz.
