Which do you prefer - WW or counting calories?

Right now I'm doing both - mainly because I've never dieted seriously in my life and I KNOW I need help - and I find I'm getting a different sort of satisfaction from both methods.

However, I know if I don't choose one method eventually, I will lose interest in both, so I'm curious which method everyone prefers/finds most helpful.

I prefer to count calories.

I feel I have a better grip on an actual number as opposed to points, if that makes sense?

counting calories.

all weight loss really does boil down to calories in vs. calories out.

some people respond better to different amounts of carbs/fats/protein but its really the calories that matter the most.

I count macronutrients rather than calories--but same principle. And WW didn;t work for me either.

I do best when I change it up. I usually count calories but if I've gained a few pounds sometimes I'll alternate and do WW for a week or count my macros to make sure I'm eating "ideally".

I agree. I have been most successful when I've counted calories. Just easier for me also.

Re: Which do you prefer - WW or counting calories?

I think I'm going to end up preferring to count calories as well.

It's interesting, maybe it's psychological, but I can go maybe 50 calories over my daily allowance (which is awesome IMO) but be 2-3 points over in WW points which to me seems huge - but I'm still seeing the same weight loss.

MyFitnessPal is an outstanding app, I am really loving it so far Chat Icon

Another calorie/macro counter here too. While WW works for many it wasnt the type of plan for me.
I use myfitnesspal to track and make sure i'm getting my proper macro ratios (or as close to it as possible)

Counting calories works better for me and it's much easier for me to keep track of rather than trying to figure out the points. I have used myfitnesspal.com in the past successfully and now with the app, its so convenient

i don't do either. I've had success on the old ww plan (not the pp program) and just can't picture myself counting for the rest of my life. I started working with a nutritionist and watch portion sizes and mix categories for weight loss. For example:

3 oz - 1 portion for red meat
4 oz - 1 portion for poultry or tofu
5 oz - 1 portion for fish
1/2 cup - fruit
1/2 cup - 1 cup - startchy veggies/carbs

I don't eat a no carb diet but I do limit it. I eat 5 small meals per day. It looks like this, not including non-startchy veggies which are unlimited:

meal 1 - protein, fat, carb
meal 2 - protein, carb
meal 3 - protein, carb (carb only if I didn't eat in meal 2)
meal 4 - protein
meal 5 - protein

a second fat goes into meal 3, 4 or 5.
