Mulch-- your gardener or DIY?

Our gardener came by because we need to replace some bushes, and he said he was going to mulch this week. Price he quoted was $35/yard plus labor.

After seeing the post on here re" the sale on mulch, we looked into doing ourselves because it seems to be SO much cheaper.

Is there a difference in grade of mulch? Also, with new plantings-- anything we should do differently if we plan to mulch ourselves?

I would say its always cheaper to do it yourself. Not always better or easier but cheaper!

We bought sweet peat for $38/yard and it was a min of 5 yards for delivery.

So make sure you find out what kind of mulch it is.

Yes, mulch is different but your landscaper probably gets his from Home Depot or Lowes also. He just charges more.

I used to do it myself at our old house. But our new house has much more property and so many more beds to fill that we had our landscaper do it. What they did in a matter of hours yesterday would have easily taken me 3-4 full days. If you have a lot to do I think it's worth it to pay the extra to have it done for you.

For those that have your landscaper do it...would you be able to share the price and number of yards?
