Empire Carpet
Has anyone used them? We want to get new carpet for two rooms. How do you pick out and know what you're getting if you can't go to a store?

Re: Empire Carpet
Definitely search for them on here.
I didn't use them but I remember many posts bashing them.

Re: Empire Carpet
My brother looked into using them and in addition to be WAY more money than other local guys the salesman was incredibly pushy.
Needless to say he didn't use them.

Re: Empire Carpet
My SIL said the same thing- SUPER expensive and pushy. I think she wound up going with them, but she wasn't pleased about it and her hand was kinda forced by the co-op board. If you can shop around, I would!

Re: Empire Carpet
We had them come to us for a consultation and the guy was extremely pushy and they were way over priced so we opted not to use them. They bring sample books with them so you can see swatches of carpet and wood.

Re: Empire Carpet
I used them for a SMALL room and it was expensive. When it was time to do our large Den I went to Jim Flack on 110 in Farmingdale. It was just a bit more expensive than Empire and the room was 4x as large. Carpet is the same quality.
I would try Jim FLack (right near where the Crazy DOnkey was on 110)

Re: Empire Carpet
HORRIBLE!
We used them for our den/hallway. The quality was horrible. The old carpet had more padding and when the put the new one down, I could feel the uneven floor under my feet. I even had them come back because I wasn't happy with how the stairs came out, and they said it was fine and did nothing to fix it (if you have no shoes on, you can feel the nail tacks under your toes). I was warned not to use them and I didn't listen, because I was more concerned about price than quality. I regret it! We had a small bedroom done by CarpetOne. Even though it was a tad more expensive, it was well worth it and I LOVE that carpet!
ETA: I forgot this also...they didnt even finish the job the same day like they said. They came back a day or two later. It was horrible trying to live with half a carpet and all our stuff in hallways, other rooms, etc. They didnt compensate for it either

Re: Empire Carpet
I had a terrible experience with them years ago when I got carpet for the living room in my co-op. They gave me a price for the whole room, but wouldn't tell me what I was being charged per yard, when I asked. (Yes, you could pretty much figure it out, but I wanted them to tell me and they wouldn't). The carpet wasn't laid right and got a big crease/lump through the middle of it after about 2 yrs.
My DH and I just ordered carpet for 4 BRs, den, hall and stairs, from Marina One on Jericho Tpk in East Northport and they have been great to work with (only 2 BRs and den are done so far because work is still being done in the other rooms)

Re: Empire Carpet
we used them for one bedroom-or, well, tried to. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! The installers never showed up, then when we cancelled our order (I think you have 72 hours or something to do so) it took several months and a dozen phone calls to receive our deposit back. NEVER AGAIN!
EDIT: This was this past October, so fairly recent.

Re: Empire Carpet
I'm in Holbrook and I will be having carpet installed tomorrow by home depot (they use "US carpet installation"). I'll let you know how it goes. Only other place we went to was lowes and we got much better service already from HD that we went with them instead.
