new front door
hHow much have you paid for a new front door? We have a front door with sidelights and would like to have the whole thing replaced. We had a company come in today to give us a quote ...
hold ...
SEVENTEEN K! 17 grand   and the "less expensive" still came in at 11k.
I almost had a heart attack - ok, maybe I did!
We went to Lowes and were quoted 3500-5k after installation.
Is this the norm?

We had active doors and windows give us a quote. Ours was $5,300 including a huge over the door glass piece.

Tri-State Window Factory. They are coming April 7. They did all our windows and our sliding glass door in January 2010. We had a pipe burst while on vacation and the fire department had to break down the front door, after being unable to break in through the sliding glass door, so we went to them to get a new front door.

11-17 k for just a front door system is just insane. i dont care where you live. it must be made of gold or something.
the $3500 for a front door system is more like it.
remember...glass dictates price. the more glass and the more detail in the glass will determine the price.
shop around some more.

thanks ladies. we went to home depot today and found a craftsman door we love (in mahogany  ) for 2900 before installation!

DH and I were low maintenance. We went from a screen door to a six panel red steel door just a little under $1000.00 with Elegant Entries in East Meadow. I guess I'm lucky that I'm not a fan of the glass in the doors. That will always get you.
BTW ... Lowe's and Home Depot can be more expensive than some smaller private places

DO NOT USE ELEGANT ENTRIES -
WORST experience EVER with a company and insanely over priced. - I paid $4,000 for my door and am going to have to replace it again b/c it's a piece of garbage, workmanship is AWFUL and the installation job was even worse !! - and that's only 1/4 of my horror story.
I would 150% recommend Tri State Window Factory - They did a large window and all of our siding and gutters last summer - One of THE BEST compaines I have ever worked with - I wish I found them sooner !!
