still on the fence
almost a month ago i posted on here that we were going to try IVF. Well, we have not gone forward with it yet. I had my concerns about my age (just turned 40) and the chances of it working, but as I went through the various tests I started to really feel hopeful.
DH has been pretty negative about the procedure working b/c i showed him some statistics. He says that if it worked he'd be thrilled but he feels very pessimistic about it working.
This kind of makes me feel a little sad/ depressed before even going in. I don't know...I feel like i'm looking for him to be more positive and hopeful going into it. I know our age is a challenge and working against us. but part of my hesitation with moving forward is his negativity towards our chances.
Not sure what I am looking for by posting this, I guess I just needed to get it off my chest. Am I foolish to let his negativity about whether it works impact the decision? It's not that he doesn't want a child it's that he feels we would be going down a dead end street. though he would support me anyway if I did want to do IVF. Somehow that still doesn't feel so good/ positive/ reassuring.
meanwhile, time is ticking...sigh

Re: still on the fence
I personally wouldn't let age discourage you ... There are people who are in their late 30s/early 40s who get pregnant on their first IVF.. while people in their late 20s/early 30s won't ... You just never know.
Just like anyone going into this of ANY age, you just have to have faith that what you are doing will work- but you can't put too much stock into the first one working because it doesn't matter WHO you are, IVF is never a guarantee- especially on the first shot! ...
If round 1 doesn't work, are you and hubby willing to got for another round?
Knowing what the next plan is if this first round doesn't work could help take some of the edge off. One round of IVF isn't he end all...

Re: still on the fence
I think our hubby's usually have a different reaction to the whole IVF process at first but eventually they get on board. I wouldnt let age be the only reason why you dont try IVF. You just never know....i never thought i would have to go to a RE at 31.
I agree with Penny, maybe if you have a plan about what to do if the 1st IVF cycle doesnt work it might make it an easier decision?
