What is everyone planting this yr?

THis is our first yr in the house and I was wondering what everyone will be planting...I am really not good with plants so I am a bit scared that I will try and fail at it... I went out and bought some seeds to germinate basil, oregano and cilantro but I also plan on buying the plants just in case the seeds dont work out.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a person who is just starting to garden and wants to grow herbs?

Re: What is everyone planting this yr?

As far as flowers I always plant impatients. I think this year I am going to go with white and pink, I love how they look together. I plant them all along my front bed in the front yard and then in pots in the back yard for some color.

As far as my veggie garden --- I am going to stick with what I've had success with this year. Tomatoes, zucchini and cucumbers. I will plant two cucumber plants, two zucchini plants, and about 4-6 grape tomato plants. I might do string beans also because I've had a lot of luck with them.

I've planted brocolli, lettuce, peppers in the past with not as much success so I'm just not going to do it this year. We will have a newborn infant so I'm sticking with what I know.

As far as fresh herbs I have a large pot that I plant individual herb plants in --- parsley, basil, cilantro, rosemary, oregano, chives, etc. The chives come back every year so I've planted them only once. Everything else I re-plant each year.

We're going to be closing on our home too late for this, but next year I'll be planting lilies of the valley next year.

My mom has them and they are beautiful but bloom very early in the year (her's aren't up yet). I don't know much about them but they appear to be very low maintenance but smell amazing!

Chives come back each year? Awesome!

Anyone grow edamame/soybeans? Berries?

Yep..the are a type of onion which is a bulb, so they come back each year.

Lol, funny story...my sister's "lawn" is full of chive or onion bulbs. The people who owned the home before her had a huge herb garden adn they must have spread all over the yard. Now when my BIL mows their "lawn" it smells like onions! It gets worse every year! Chat Icon

I have had strawberry plants but haven't had much luck with it. I get a few strawberries, but I feel like while I wait for them to get red then get too soft and go bad. I may experiment with them again and do more reading online, but so far not much luck!

I'll have a newborn this spring so I honestly am probably gonna stick to the basics!
