Sandals Halycon, St. Lucia
Has anyone stayed here and what were your thoughts? it seems like the more reasonable of the St. Lucia Sandals and they offer the stay at 1, play at 3. Can anyone tell me about this? Thoughts??

Re: Sandals Halycon, St. Lucia
Halycon is the smallest of the three Sandals resorts.
Also, you asked about flights to St. Lucia....There are 2 different airports. The larger one is a longer distance to the hotels. It makes a big difference when you drive on their roads....not fun with no air and very bumpy. When we flew down there several years ago, we flew AA and we had a layover in PR. It wasn't bad at all flying into the smaller airport.

Loved it!!
Now we went for our honeymoon (in 96) so I don't know how much has changed so I can only go on my experience.
We loved the intimate, small feel of it. I was so happy we chose it over the other one - we traveled over to the main St Lucia one for dinner and people were complaining about not getting a pool chair, too crowded etc.

Depends on what your vacation style and preferences are. We stayed at the Regency and it was the middle of the pack
Grand St. Lucian - largest (and rumored to have the best beach - we were on it more than at Regency). They also had this amazing French bakery that made me wish we stayed there over the Regency.
Regency - on a hill, smaller beach and generally less crowded than the Grande.
Halcyon - smallest of the 3. We did not like their beach and the majority of people there were much older (ie senior citizens celebrating anniversaries). The activities weren't as fun either (also geared toward older/mature crowds).
You can't go wrong though - you can stay at 1 and play at the others as often as you'd like.

We stayed at the Grande for our honeymoon but went over to Halycon for half a day. There didnt seem like there was much going on and it seemed a little on the boring side. It seems to be the preferred choice for older people for some reason.

Re: Sandals Halycon, St. Lucia
We stayed at the Regency La Toc which was perfect for us. Middle sized resort with a great restaurant and in addition to the big crazy main pool ther was the quiet sunset pool up on the bluff. You can always bus to the other resorts.
The Grande is the largest with the largest beach. One thing I can say for it is that it's on the side with better weather and calmer seas. Halcyon and La Toc are in Castries which can have some rocky seas. At La Toc and Halcyon though there are virtually no bugs because of the volcanic soil, wheras I got bitten up during one dinner at the Grande.
Halcyon is smaller and sleepier. Very secluded, but also small and as others have mentioned a lot of older couples. the Grande seemed to havea lot of young partier types, La Toc was a mix, with the older and quieter crowd in the butler suites on the bluff (30's and 40's), and Halcyon did seem to be older, like a 50+ crowd, and some much older.
