Planting Strawberries
I got a flyer from Hicks Nurseries advertising a sale on strawberry plants. I always wanted to plant one of these, but every year I forget about it until it's too late.
When do you plant these? Are they on sale because it's actually too early to plant them? I have read that you can't expect fruit the first year you have them, but does anyone have any other experience or tips about growing strawberries? Thanks!

You can plant strawberries in the ground now if it doesn't frost. Doesn't look likely now this year. But you can still buy them and keep them in a coolish area until you are ready say next month. I planted mine years ago in March and it frosted and they still lived. Don't buy too many. Each "crown" sends out like a six-dozen runners each year.

Re: Planting Strawberries
the plants they are currently selling are probably in peat moss and half dormant. They don't start selling strawberry plants until summer.
