What does an ear infection feel like?

I've never had one but if I had to guess, what I'm feeling right now is it! I've been sick for the last week and I'm on day 4 of some heavy antibiotics. But, for over a week my ears have made me feel like I'm under water. But, today in particular has been awful. Now they are ringing/vibrating and there is a dull stabbing/sharp pain. And, I feel like i'm in an airplane and I need to pop them. What gives? Ear infection while i'm on antibiotics?

I had a cold and ended up with fluid in my ear about a month ago. For a day or so I felt as you described and then for 2 nights it was BAD - I used a heating pad on my ear and tylenol to sleep. I went to my regular Dr. and he said I had fluid and that it was irritated but, not a full blown infection yet. He said to take a decongestant for 4-5 days and if i wanted a drop of peroxide in the ear a few times. This all worked and it cleared up. My ENT looked at my ear the other day and said all was fine. Also, my guess is what you have is probably viral and that is why you seem to be getting worse on the antibiotics - they won't help anything but bacterial.

I'd call the pharmacy & double check if you can take motrin with your antibiotic. Motrin & warm compresses will get you through the night.

I have sold a lot of different antibiotics, some are better for certain infections than others.

I would call the Doctor, maybe they want you to come in for a re check.

They may prescribe a different antibiotic and give you a steroid nasal spray.They may also want you to take a decongestant/antihistamine. When I had a sinus/ear infection last month, I used Mucinex it helped a lot with the pressure.

Yes that's an ear infection. I've had two in my life and it took three weeks to go away with antibiotics.

Woke up this morning, still feel the same. Here's the thing. I have asthma. So, I already take a steroid nasal spray and a decongestant. Plus, I'm taking the antibiotics which were prescribed bc I had a cold that turned into my asthma. I know it's not viral. This is my regular routine with my asthma and when I get sick. But, the pressure in my ear is killing me. I'm calling the dr. this morning to see if they can take me in.

I haven't had an ear infection in a long time, but I will say this....for my DC, they have no symptoms when they have ear infections and they don't complain about anything. When my DH had one, I had to take him to the ER because he was in so much pain.
