Granite
These home shows say that if you go to a granite yard and buy an already cut piece of granite it will save you a lot of money. is this true?
I only need a 36" piece for a vanity.

Re: Granite
Yes, if they have a remnant (of a larger piece of granite from another job), it is cheaper.
If they don't have to cut a large piece of granite and they have a small piece that suits your needs, you could get a good deal on it.

Re: Granite
Yes, basically you should go to a fabricator, not one of the slab yards if you're looking for a deal.
Most places have leftover pieces that they make into vanity tops, or certian colors they keep on hand for doing that. selection obviously varies.
Homedepot and lowes have instock vanity tops in a few colors as well. I bought a top at a yard, but if a color from HD worked I would have bought there.
for reference, I paid $400 for a top with undermount sink for a 30" vanity in white carrara marble. That was picked up at the granite fabricator (I didn't have them template or install) They provided a Kohler sink that was included in the price. I went to Elegante granite in Westbury, they wrere good to deal with, knew what they were doing, and unlike someplaces didn't feel like I was either trying to be upsold, or feel like I needed to take a shower from the slimyness.
