Were you charged for a pre-approval?
We went to inquire about getting pre-approved for a mortgage. While they would give us a prequalification, they said the pre-approval would cost $100. Did your bank/mortgage broker charge you? How much?

Yup, we were charged 50$ by our bank, but that money would apply to our closing.

No...and I worked in mortgage banking and none of the companies I worked for ever charged.

Yes. I'm not sure how much because my DH took care of it, but it went through the whole underwriting process and there was a fee.

yes I believe it was a $25 fee (or close to it)
When we had bought our condo 7 years ago, we were not charged a fee for the pre-approval, but that was a different bank

Most banks will do it free of charge. You should at the very least find out - if you do end up getting a motgage with that loan officer, will you be credited back the fee at closing. I think that's fair.
