Re: Disney Cruise

We will be taking DD, 5 and DS 15 months (then) this summer. We are sailing on the Dream. I definitely think it's not too early. Disney ships are very family oriented. There are plenty of things for the little ones to do. She will not be able to go in the pools unless she is potty trained. But they have a splash area designed for babies and toddlers. You could also utilize Andy's room. It is their daycare center/ play area for the little ones. I've heard they will let you go in that area to play with them as well. Castaway Cay has a family beach area and you could also rent a cabana for naps and getting out of the sun. I've done a lot of research on the ship because of our trip so if you have any questions feel free to FM.

Re: Disney Cruise

Nope! Seriously, it's great for all ages.

There are activities for all ages and of course the lifesaver It's a Small World (on the Dream) nursery.

Due to safety regulations, children in diapers are NOT allowed in pools, but there is a toddler splash area, and lots of family activities.

I recommend getting a room with a verandah if you can. This will give you a place to relax/talk while it's your DC's nap time.

I also recommend booking early so that you can reserve the first/main seating. Unlike other cruise lines, this is the more popular seating time, so it goes fast.

Re: Disney Cruise

Jennifer addressed the rest of your question so I'll tackle time of year.

November 1st ends hurricane season so that makes November a great time to cruise for that alone! We always cruise with extended family for Thanksgiving/my daughter's birthday at the end of November and have yet to find the weather too cool or rainy to take advantage of pools and beaches.

I'd say go for it!

Re: Disney Cruise

Nope... I just came back from the Disney Dream with my 16 month old daughter and 4 year old son ! We all had a blast... we had early dining, and afterwards from 7PM - 11 PM we had the nursery booked for my daughter.. by the end second day they new exactly how to put her to sleep and calm her down, I was very impressed.

FYI, remember your password, because even if your room key matches their "mickey band" when scanned, they will not allow your child out of the nursery! if it wasn't for my husband one night they would have kept her! LOL

Also, if your kids is a picky eater... Go for their Mac and Cheese, my kids cleaned their plates!

You will not be disappointed.

Re: Disney Cruise

We just got back from a cruise on the Dream. It was amazing. The kiddie water play area looked like so much fun I really wanted to go in it. The staff was so amazing. They literally take care of everything so you have no worries at all! After having been on the cruise and seen it first hand I would literally go with a child any age (well over 12 weeks at least)

It's a room. They have all day babysitting for children 3mos-3years. They have play time, movies, and a separate area for naps.

You could think about getting a room on Deck 5, or a Midship room on another Deck so that you're close to the nursery and there isn't far to travel.

Hopefully someone who has used this service can chime in more? The parents I spoke with on the ship were raving about it, but I didn't ask about how it went bringing the child back to the room.

Re: Disney Cruise

No, they don't bring the kids back to the room.LOL.. I wish! But no, you have to drop off and pick them up, so if your reservation is from 7PM -10PM, you have to show up, or they send a text message to your wave phone that your time is up.

You have to bring the necessities, such as diapers, wipes, bottles or a lovey if needed.

From this experience, I would definitely have chosen a later time frame, say, 9 PM -12 PM, Only because I think my DH and I could have used more alone time.

we were right on deck 5 so basically we walked down the hall usually she was sleeping.

But as soon as you are able to book the nursery hours online DO IT!, they say you could do it on board, but the only hours they have left are usually not convenient...

I'll try to post a few picks... but it was definitely one of the best vacation I have been on... even with three kids! .. I forgot to say that I also have a 14 year old son too..

Great pics. How was it having your two kids in two different "nurseries"? My Ds1 will be 3 and ds2 1 1/2 so I am kind of weary about that.

Re: Disney Cruise

Great pics...thanks for posting! We are going on the April 30th sailing on the Magic! I noticed you had a pic with a radio flyer wagon...do they rent these at Castaway Cay? Also, the big watermark in the background...I'm assuming that was also at Castaway Cay...is there a charge for that or is it included? I'm SO excited! My DD will be 21 months and I booked the nursery, but I didn't book late nights because I'm afraid she won't sleep for them and it will throw her schedule off...am I nuts?

Re: Disney Cruise

They do rent sand strollers and wagons at CC. Get there early though. When I went it was 10am and the sand strollers were already gone for the day..it was maybe 10am.

The slide in the background is Pelican Plunge. There's no charge for it, but there is a height requirement (I believe 38") and you have to swim out to it in over 6 feet of water. it's kind of a swim test I guess because at the end you are shot out into 6 feet of water. Life jackets are provided for the little ones. We saw quite a few 3 and 4 year olds fearlessly riding both slides (The open one is less intense than the covered one).

Re: Disney Cruise

I'm not sure about the strollers, but basically the wagons at CC are just out... you grab on, plop your kids in them and off you go..

I'm not sure what magic they have going on in the Nursery, but my daughter would fall asleep there, and stay asleep even through the walk back to the room.. If you can change it to later in the evening, I would go for it... you need some "adult" time too... she will be in great hands..

Keep in mind that her days will require alot of activity so she may so exhausted that she will sleep there.

Re: Disney Cruise

It was great, after dinner I dropped the little one at the nursery, the 4 year old at the Oceanners club... the 14 year old stayed at Vibe until closing time...
However, if your three year old indicates to the staff that they want to get picked up earlier than you planned they will send a text message to your wave phone, which my DS did one night.. not a big deal, but you do have to respond.
But there is so much to do, that I don't even realize time in there.

Oh, and hand washing is mandatory, as they go in the Oceanners club and when they leave. they have this cool system where they stick their hands in this weird sink and it has soapy water..
Everything is very clean, and there system is very well organized. No worries...

Re: Disney Cruise

Try to get a late time and arrange dinner at Remy or Palo. We had dinner at Remy and it was such an amazing experience.
