One of our agents stayed at the Wyndham and wasn't impressed. She said her room was dirty (she's a self-proclaimed clean freak) and there was construction going on around her room.

We've stayed at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress and it was nice.

Where do you want to walk to from those resorts? There's a shopping center across the main road from the resorts but I'd be nervous about walking in that area. Too many people not knowing where they're going to be paying attention to people.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Lake Buena Vista Downtown - it's walking distance from Downtown Disney and has shuttles to the parks. It was clean and convenient; I'd recommend it.

Have you considered gardengrocer.com. I know that they deliver to the WDW hotels but I think that they probably deliver to most hotels in orlando area. They are like peapod. We used them on our last trip - they have everything from food, to diapers, to sunscreen etc. This way you don't have to worry about getting to a grocery store if you don't have a car. You can check on disboards and see if people have used them for a downtown disney hotel but I know with the WDW hotels (I would imagine other hotels would do the same) bell services takes the food if you aren't there and keeps it cold for you in their fridge.

We stayed at the Hilton there a few years back. You don't get all the extra's you get from the Disney Hotels, but all in all it was quite nice and the pool was great too. I remember there being a cafe but not a nice restaurant. You can walk to downtown, but you have to take buses to the other resorts. Also it was a good mix of couples w/out kids and couples with kids. The other cool thing is you don't need to rent a car, you take a shuttle to the hotel and you can really get to everything you need to.

It's really not feasible to walk to either of these stores. Walgreens is off the interstate, as is Winn Dixie. Actually maybe it's not considered the interstate....but it's a very busy main road, and really not in walking distance.

If you want to walk to dining and stores, look into hotels on Palm Parkway, there is a Fairfield Inn, a Courtyard and a couple of others. That area comes up under Lake Buena Vista when you are searching. We stayed at the Residence Inn further down Palm off Marbella Parkway (too far to walk to stuff IMO, but fantastic place). I know some of them offer a shuttle to Epcot, then you have to transfer to the parks. You wouldn't be able to walk to DTD though.

If you aren't renting a car, and are doing a car service from the airport, book one that does a grocery stop. They usually give you 15 minutes in the store.

I haven't stayed in the DTD area. I always stay onsite.

If you want to be able to walk to DTD and have groceries, how about Saratoga Springs? Even in a studio there you have a kitchenette, and you can order from garden grocer, and you'll be able to walk to DTD. Turner Drug will also deliver, but most items you'll need can be found at resort shops (they have a lot that isn't displayed especially on the medical end) and at the baby care centers.

Do you really like the eateries at DTD? How about a hotel that has a great food court or its own great restaurants?

You might also consider Port Orleans. It's a nice boat ride to DTD.

Are you going to the parks? Because honestly, I think you are going to make this harder for yourself. Without a car I would never consider staying off site and i have done both. You will be exhausted from walking in parks all day and then tpo walk to Downtown Disney is a lot!

You are going to have to wait on the buses from the resort to the parks though no?

How are you getting from the airport to the hotel?

You may want to reconsider the car rental. We rented a car over Thanksgiving week for like $65 for a full size from Alamo. It started out much more than that, but the price kept dropping, so I kept modifying my reservation. It's all a game with the car rentals down there.
