? for those around 36 weeks

If you've been given a estimated fetal weight what was it? I had a sono on Thursday (35w5d) and they estimated DS to be 5.5lbs and in the 30th percentile (she may have said 36th percentile I can't remember). I'm so used to my family having huge babies that are born in the 90th+ perfentile that I feel like DS is going to be too tiny I'm being induced around 38 weeks due to high bp so I know he still has a little time to pick up some weight and that the sono estimates can be off, but I'm still making myself crazy over here and I'm worried that him coming the two weeks early is going to cause him problems. I know that ultimately when dealing with high bp and all that goes along with it often it is much safer/better for mom and baby to deliver early and technically at 38 weeks he will be term but I guess being a first time mom I'm just worrying about everything too much.

Sorry, this went from a post asking a simple question to a ramble of everything in my crazy head!

i dont think that is tiny, i bet you have a 7-7.5lb baby

DS measured 5.4 at 34w and was born 40w2d at 8.7lbs!


OK - reread your entire OP - i still say that if you deliver at 38 weeks, he could be high 6's, low 7's and that is perfectly average for a FULLTERM baby!!

Baby measured 5lb 7oz a tour 36 week growth sono and ob wasn't concerned at all. It has no implication as to how big they will grow either. As long as they have the time to develop as much as needed before coming because dating and even weight estimates can be off be a lb! I would say as long as our ob isn't concerned, it's ok

I wouldn't worry. He will probably be high 6 or 7lbs. My DS was 6lb 9oz and 3 weeks early. he is almost 9 weeks and I think about 10lbs. He gained so much weight once he was born and he has been completely healthy even though he came early. You would never know by looking at him that he was early.

You will be fine and your DS will be great.

I really wouldn't go by the numbers they give you at the sono. At 34 weeks my dd was measuring 5.5lbs at 37 weeks she was measuring 8lbs8oz, she was born at 37w6d and was only 7.0lbs. I don't think they are very accurate.

I'm kind of in the opposite boat as you are. I have GD and at 35 weeks, they told me LO weighed 6lb 7oz which I feel like is HUGE! I'm hoping that they are not always accurate. I will tell you that at 33 weeks, she was estimated at 4lbs 15oz so she put on a decent amount of weight in the two weeks. I think your LO will be a perfect size when he is born.

if you actually have pre-e it could cause placental disease and reduced amniotic fluid and reduced blood flow through the placenta causing a lower birth weight. I had pre-e and HELLP but even before HELLP developed my DD was growth restricted and measured about 2 weeks behind her gestational age. these symptoms tend to be consistent with blood clotting issues so if you have a known one related to problems conceiving, miscarriages, or PCOS, it can be a precursor of pre-e.

as long as they are monitoring the baby's growth, placenta blood flow, and amniotic fluid, along with protein in your urine, you really have nothing to worry about as far as issues delivering at 38 weeks. the issue might be more of getting to 38 weeks although you are already 36 so at this point your baby is basically fullly cooked and est. over 5lbs you shouldn't anticipate any problems. many 40w babies are only around 6-7lbs so theres really nothing to worry about as far as the weight goes.

i delivered at 33w and although DD was tiny (3lbs 8oz - ~12th percentile for 33w) she is absolutely healthy (so far at least ). but if you have high BP and are dx with pre-e that could be a reason for having a smaller baby at this point.

DS#1 he was estimated at 7lbs 7oz, the day before I gave birth they said 8lbs 10oz...next day there was DS all 9lbs 12oz!
(Vaginal delivery)

DS#2 was estimated at my 36 week well 35 week 5 day appt to be 6lbs 9oz. The sono tech maybe an 8lb 10oz baby by the time I give birth....but they want to check me again since DS#1 was so large.

I don't think your DC will be tiny! Those estimations are just that...I mean please they told me 8lbs 10oz and the next day he was 9lbs 12oz!

You have to keep in mind that sonos are estimates! My doc estimated that my DD was going to be 10lbs 7oz when she was born and she ended up being 9lbs 10oz. Almost a pound less! So I honestly wouldn't worry about it too much. They say that they can be off by a pound in either direction. You will probably end up with a 6-7 lb baby which is entirely normal and healthy! And who wants to deliver a 10lb baby anyway!

I just had one at 35 weeks 3 days and they said she is 6 lbs 8 oz. But my prior 2 babies were 8 lbs 5 oz and 8 lbs 9 oz. So I tend to have "bigger" babies.

And remember, sonos aren't always right. They're actually mostly wrong.

I had one the day before I was 35 weeks..the student sono tech said 4 and 13 oz and then when the regular tech checked he said "a little over 5 pounds"..the doctor said that made him in the 45%
