Dining Room Furniture--Arm Chairs/Side Chairs

When buying dining room sets, they often include 2 arm chairs, side chairs and table.

My question is, does it look weird if you ask for only side chairs? My mom, brought up a good point--arm chairs take up more room and they cost more than the side chairs.

Has anyone done this--only taken side chairs?

I'm looking around for a dining room set for our new space, so I'm not sure if I'll miss the "formal" look of an arm chair--I feel it completes its, but then again I usually like the side chairs more

If anyone had pics of this look, it might help me in deciding--thanks

i purchased my dining table w/arm chairs only. However, i did get two different arm chairs that were slipcovered for the heads of the table. i do think it will look strange if you dont have some type of chair there.

I think you could totally get away with using side chairs at the head of the table. Many of the more casual sets do not even come with arm chairs. You need to decide if you are looking for a formal or causal look.
