Aruba - Need opinions on two resorts...

We are looking to do a mini-vacation/long weekend to Aruba in May.

I've read online reviews on both resorts and they both seem to be highly rated.

Renaissance Marina Hotel (Adults Only part)

Occidental Grande Aruba

Some online reviews recommend upgrading to the Royal Club for the Occidental resort. Not sure what that adds to the all-inclusive package we were quoted.

Any feedback is appreciated.

TIA!

Re: Aruba - Need opinions on two resorts...

We stayed at the Renaissance back in 2006. I loved it. I liked that it was in the downtown area so we could walk to some restaurants, shopping, bars etc. The only con, which I didn't mind at all was that it is not on the beach. The have a private island and the boat comes into the hotel lobby to take you there. Over there they have 2 beaches, a place to eat/get drinks etc. I always recommend this place.

If you want, FM me your email address, I can send you my shutterfly album from when we were there.

Eta... the Renaissance has an all inclusive pkg but we didn't do that. Friends of ours did however and I just felt the missed out on the best restaurants like El gauchos, flying fish, etc. And in the end with all our drinks food etc, I don't think they spent any less than us

Even if you are staying at an all-inclusive, you have to make the trek to Madame Jeannette's for dinner one night. You will not regret it!!!! We ate so well in Aruba...yum...

I prefer the palm beach area by the high rise hotels... I would definitely choose the Occidental Chat Icon

But I am biased, I stay at the Marriott every year Chat Icon

We loved the food in Aruba. I would never suggest an all inclusive. You would miss out on the great restuarants.

We loved the Renissance Hotel for location but we found the beds to be very hard and not comfortable.

i didnt stay at the occidental but i went inside and i was happy that i didnt stay there. It was old and smelled of ciggs etc. Did you look into the Hyatt? We stayed there in the beginning of february and we absolutly loved it. Did you look at the Radisson- also a very nice property.
