Home listings with no photos kind of annoy me.
I automatically think that the place is a disaster if there aren't any pics of the inside. Would you even consider looking at places without pics?

I was the same way when we started looking for a place! If there were no pics I didn't even bother!!

I didn't even consider the houses with no pictures. I needed 'something' visual to work with, not just a description.

Re: Home listings with no photos kind of annoy me.
I used to think the same but we just listed our house and the pictures weren't done by the time we listed so for the first few days (3 -4) we were listed with only the front of the house picture, until the remaining ones went up.
My house is in great condition and shows well, it was just that the pics weren't done yet.
So now I wouldn't automatically reject the listing if there was no pic. But I would also take into consideration the condition they state the home is in and what the description says.

you can't even go by the pictures, bc some realtor stink at taking them and others don't show everything. Then if you go by what they say (excellent, etc) it's bs. I went to a house that was listed as excellent. Except it didn't come with a fridge/dishwasher/washing machine/dryer...oh yea and there was a crack in the sewer line!

I feel the same way. No house should be listed without a photo because so many people have auto feed lists sent to them. You miss all of those prospective buyers. I really feel that this is an enormous error on the part of the realtors.

Excellent in real estate speak is actually not so excellent. In my experience, it goes:
1. Diamond 2. Mint 3. Excellent 4. V. Good 5. Good 6. Fair 7. Poor
Obviously, these are subjective terms with room for interpreteation(and some realtors take liberties), but how I see them used most often are as follows:
Diamond is totally minted out, everything's new, has all of the modern amenities. Usually (but not always) a "diamond" condition home is a new construction (or relatively new), or a total renovation (could be a flip). Usually these homes are also well staged.
Mint is a tick below, but usually has certain upgrades (e.g., gas heat, cac., in ground sprinklers), at least some newer "big items" (e.g., roof, heating system, siding, windows), and nicer cosmetic finishes (hardwood flooring, granite counters in kitchen, nice paint colors).
Excellent is a well-maintained house, and all major systems should be in good working order (but are often not new). But these homes are often older, with dated finishes and decor. Sometimes you will see "Excellent +" if the house has some nice upgrades or maybe one room is remodeled, but the rest is dated.
V. Good to Good -- The home is a fixer-upper (aka "handyman's special!") - probably in some state of disrepair and will require some work to be habitable (new boiler, new roof, etc.). Often these are the types of homes you might need to get a 203(k) rehab loan to purchase.
Fair or poor, you are probably talking about a knockdown!

Re: Home listings with no photos kind of annoy me.
Also, as to the original question -- many times there are no pics because a home is not in good showing condition. But that just may mean it's cluttered or messy, not necessarily in poor condition overall.
Some sellers often are super concerned about privacy, their nosy neighbors seeing the photos, etc. and do not want interior photos posted. But that type of seller is probably not that motivated to sell. A good agent would explain that, in the internet age, photos are key to marketing, and a lack of photos will really hinder the chance of selling.
A lot of times if a listing is brand new and there will eventually be photos, there is a placeholder there that says "too new for photos." But personally, I always try to put my new listings out with all of the photos there, because a property makes the most impact on the market (and usually gets the most interest) when it is first listed.
If you think a property looks like a potentially good match for you, but you don't want to waste your time looking at something that is a disaster, you could always ask your agent to find out why there aren't pictures posted and/or go preview the home for you.

I have a better one. When there are a million pictures in the listing, but not one of the kitchen... Hmmm, I wonder why?
Usually Bow Chicka Wow Wow....1970's decor.

If the listing is too new for photos, that's one thing. If it's been listed for awhile and no pictures or just a couple of the outside, I wouldn't look at it.

Re: Home listings with no photos kind of annoy me.
it's actually how we sold our condo LOL. My realtor felt that pictures sway people and that they would come anyway to look out of curiosity if we made the blurb good. Me and my DH weren't sure at first, but she was right, it worked!
ETA- not sure it would work as good for a house, being other condos were on the market, I am sure they looekd at ours and theirs

Re: Home listings with no photos kind of annoy me.
I've looked at many with and without pictures. The house we brought had updated the kitchen and bathroom, plus had wooden floors. Yes, the house was messy and not clean for showing. I could put my own spin and update to my taste. It was a short sale and the couple was getting a divorce. I saw the house five times before putting an offer.

Re: Home listings with no photos kind of annoy me.
The house we bought only had a photo of the outside of the house. We loved the neighborhood so we mad an apt to look at the house. Yes the house needs/ed lots of work, mostly paint, floors and a kitchen. But we were able to get the price down to where we could make the house what we want. The same other houses in the neighborhood are listed for at least 100k more then we paid. We like to say the house has good bones!

Me too, but my favorites are the random pictures - the door knobs, half the kitchen faucet, etc...
