SAHM & You Career

Being a SAHM has been wonderful (personally speaking) but I'm starting to wonder about when I'll return to work. What does everyone else plan on doing? Going back part-time first? Also, how old will your youngest be when you return to working?

Re: SAHM & You Career

I plan to go back after maternity leave - so after 12 weeks. I don't want to lose momentum in my career and then have a possibly difficulty time getting back into the job market in a few years. But most of all - we need the money I make and the health insurance I bring in from my job.

Re: SAHM & You Career

This is my first and we want more - so I'm thinking about going back to school one night a week to get my masters in teaching once we're settled in - it will definitly take a lot longer to get it, but by the time I graduate and looking for a job, we'll be done having children and they'll all be in school for a little while.

I'm planning to stay at home for a bit. Undecided how long that will be.

Re: SAHM & You Career

I have been a SAHM for just over 3 years now and was a teacher beforehand. Now that we have #2 on the way, I probably won't go back to work for another 2-3 years, not until this new baby is in preschool.

And I will probably look for a part time job at that time. I don't think I will go back to being a lead teacher. I was starting to have mixed feelings about teaching when I was leaving and I don't think I will want to go back after so much time away. I've considered going back as a teacher's assistant --- same enviornment and hours but without all the crazy paperwork, or applying for a civil service position. I would want part-time anyway and usually you have to do a few years of civil service before you get hired full time, so that might work out well.

Re: SAHM & You Career

I'm kinda in a different position. I used to be an event coordinator and left that job to get my Masters in EDU. In order to support myself while in school, I took a job as a Personal Assistant. I am almost done w/my program, 1 class and student teaching left. I def want to be home for a bit w/this baby, its our 1st. I figured I would finish up the 1 class and student teach next Spring. I then figured I would take a PT job till I found a teaching job. Well this morning DH said he wants to try for another right away Chat Icon . I'm not opposed to it, we are in our mid 30's and want to have 3 kids. I guess my teaching career will have to be put off for a bit longer than I anticipated.
