Thanks, that's really good to know.
My husband and I are already pre-approved by another bank (USAA). I was told yesterday by the selling agent that the relocation firm that is coordinating the seller's move requires TWO pre-approvals-one of our choice and one by Wells Fargo or BoA. Have you ever heard of something like this before? I told the realtor that I don't want my credit pulled again if it isn't necessary, and she said she is going to get back to me.

Sometimes sellers require that all offers be accompanied by preapprovals from a certain lender. Unfortunately, some loan officers (obviously not reputable) will issue preapproval letters that aren't worth the paper they are written on. Usually, if a preapproval from a certain lender is required, it is to ensure that all of the appropriate due diligence is done and that the buyer truly is qualified and able to get a mortgage. A seller's worst nightmare is to go to contract, take the home off the market, and then learn that the buyer can't get a loan and they've wasted a lot of time going down a fruitless road!
But be aware: A seller cannot require you to actually USE a certain lender. They may want you to get a preapproval from a specific bank or person, but when it comes time to apply for a mortgage, who you use is solely up to you as the buyer.

Re: Wells Fargo Broker
I have some sellers- mainly investors who require you to speak to their loan officer
not just anyone at wells or BOA- that makes zero sense to me b/c unless the file is put into underwriting it really isn't worth the paper isn't printed on
if I was your agent I would allow the sellers agent to speak to the loan officer you are using and that should squash it
