If you had a bris/are having a bris

What are the pros and cons of having it at a synagogue vs having it in a house? I'm leaning towards a synagogue b/c I don't want people to linger in the house for hours and hours while I am recovering from a c-section and after the bris, and I want to limit the amount of germs in the home. At the same time, maybe in the house is just easier? Also, do you have a great mohel you can recommend? I am in Nassau. You don't contact them/book them until after the baby is born, b/c you don't know the exact date, right? I like to have things in order but without knowing the exact date of the birth I can't plan much now.... Food-wise you can just call bagel boss or something and they'll deliver?

When I had DS bris, I was living in a small place, so I couldn't do it in my home. We rented a catering room from a local hotel. If I were having a DS this time around, I would probably do it in my house. Easier for arranging everything. You could easily order in from Bagel Boss or somewhere else. If you are having a c-section, I am assuming it will be scheduled in advance? And likely it will be on a weekday, so the bris will also be on a weekday. So if you schedule the bris in the morning/ late morning, you likely won't have a ton of people hanging around because many will be going off to work. Also, I think *most* people realize that you guys will be exhausted/recovering and won't overstay their welcome. My DH would not hesitate to tell any people who stay for a long time that they have to go (nicely of course ) that mommy and baby need to rest. He is definitely a more religious Rabbi, and although we are VERy reformed, we had heard great things about him. He made the ceremony to our preferences and I think he did a beautiful job. He also did an excellent job with the circumcision. He is also pretty funny so it was like a little stand up comedy show, which helped to calm down a very nervous mommy. Also, definitely call the Mohel in advance, even if you don't know exactly when the bris will be. You might want to just talk to him to see if you are comfortable with him. Good luck!

I second the recommendation for Rabbi Krohn. There are two of them, but the one you want is the one at 1-800babyboy. My sister used him for both her kids, and he does a great job. My SIL used the other Rabbi Krohn and he was good, but I didn't like his personality quite as much.

I'm really not sure where we will have the bris if we have a boy. Probably at home, b/c it will be easier to put the baby to sleep after and have everything we need on hand. Either way, it is stressful to prepare for 8 days after giving birth. We're team , so we really won't know whether we need to plan for one until he pops out! I will likely cater from bagel boss.

We moved into our house (and town) 5 days before my induction. We didn't know what we were having. I ended up with a c-section. While we were in the hospital, my parents made a few phone calls to find a mohel. I think they got recommendations from the temple in our new town. We had the bris at our house during a pretty bad snowstorm. Mostly family and 1 or 2 family friends attended. My parents brought up bagels and other food. It was pretty casual and worked out fine. Since it was on a Sunday and during a storm, people didn't stay very long.
