BTDT: when did your parents/close loved ones arrive to the hospital?
So as I'm sure ALL of our parents are, esp the 1st timers. My dad is going nuts, super excited/anxious!! He's called the hospital twice to ask about visiting hours. All 3 (yes 3) cameras are packed. He's just ready to sit in the waiting room right now. But heres the thing. I don't want him pacing the waiting room for 19hrs. It will make me a nervous wreck. Especially since he doesn't speak to my mom or step dad. I don't want him to miss out on DH going out saying "it's a ___!". But I don't want them there all day either. Am I even making sense anymore?? Lol
My plan was to have DH call the parents right before we start pushing to have them come to the hospital.
When did your parents arrive? Please share your experiences. Especially those of you with divorced parents. I'm so nervous about them interacting with eachother.

Re: BTDT: when did your parents/close loved ones arrive to the hospital?
that is a tough one! I told my & Dh's parents that we would call them when it was getting close.... Yeah they all came up early anyways They all waited for about 4-5 hours. I was going to call them at about 8cm. I only pushed for less then 10 minutes, so calling them then would have been too late
ETA I was induced. My husband went with me. Told my sister to come after she was done teaching (like 3:30). It was the last hours that it was just my husband and myself, I wanted to enjoy that time. My sister showed up at 12 because she just couldn't wait anymore. I didn't let anyone else in the room until after I delivered.

I would like to hear what the BTDT moms have done, too.
My MIL recently told us that we should pass by her house and pick her up when we're on our way to the hospital

Ooh good point, thanks. I don't know why I have it in my head that I'm going to be in labor for 20+ hours and be pushing for 3. Maybe I will do something more along the lines of 8cm.
But what if it's the middle of te night? Are they still allowed in the waiting room??

I called my family on the way to the hospital. They came up about an hour or two later. I was only in L&D for about 4 hours and pushed for about 40 minutes. There were no other families in the waiting room, I had about 10 people waiting for me. I thought it was the norm, but I guess not. I appreciated it though and my family and DH's were more than happy to wait.

I was induced around 8am. Around 1 the doctor came to check me and gave an estimate of between 5 & 6 pm. My parents got there around 7 because they got stuck in traffic and DS came around 9.

DH's parents (mom, dad and step mom) all came when we called in the middle of the night. Probably about 3am-5am. My parents live in FL so I called them in the middle of the night when my water broke and they slept and then in the morning got in the car so they didn't show up until the day after peanut was born. I didn't have anyone other than DH in the delivery room so they didn't need to be there that early bu they came anyway.

Re: BTDT: when did your parents/close loved ones arrive to the hospital?
My mom/dad/brother/his gf/ and my grandma were there for my entire labor 22 hrs. They slept over night in the waiting room! They all went home for 2 hrs to shower at 2am and came back by 4 and my dd was born at 5:39 am. My mom stayed with me and dh in my room for most of my labor and had I gone natural she would have been in for the delivery. We are a really close family. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. I hope my girls want me there when they have a baby someday too!!! Its such a special time there is no way I couldn't share it with my family.
My dr. took dd out to the waiting room for everyone to see her (its one of the best pictures ever). Than everyone went home and slept a little bit. At the 2-4 visiting hours everyone came back up including some of dh family. They all got to hold dd.
This time I will be having a schedule c-sec and my whole family will be there including dd. The will get to see the baby as soon as she is born and go home for a little while. They will all come back up during visitng hours to hold the baby.

When I had my 1st DS my whole family, not his so called fathers side, spent the whole day there. It was 13 hrs. This time, with my hubby, IDK what anyone will do cause Im having another CS. I think they will just come up later on that day since it is planned.

Re: BTDT: when did your parents/close loved ones arrive to the hospital?
We called our parents on the way to the hospital an told them to take their time. Luckily they did since I had DS so fast. I got tot he hospital around 7 am and DS was born at 9:30 am!
My parents were there first. Only my MIL came because my FIL was being released from the hospital because he had a heart procedure days before! He coudlnt see DS until the day after he wa born but it all worked out fine. I think this time we will wait to get to the hospital and get checked and the call them from there. Thing is this time we need someone to take DS so we are trying to figure that all out

Re: BTDT: when did your parents/close loved ones arrive to the hospital?
Im a btdt mom. With my first baby my water broke at 1am on saturday morning. I didnt actually have the baby till 4pm that day. I pushed but the baby was coming down so ended up with a c section. My family and my dh's family were there basically the whole day. I felt terrible because i know they were all worried. Its a tough call though cause some girls push for 20 minutes and the baby comes and some girls end up like me. I think your idea is good though once you start pushing I would have the people that want to be there, arrive.

Re: BTDT: when did your parents/close loved ones arrive to the hospital?
my situation was different I had a csection with complications. my mother, father, inlaws were all there during the csection since it was 45 min. But I ended up having to stay in the dr. care because my blood pressure was extremely low. I asked for my MOMMY (yup thats what I said dont remember it) so the drs. brought her in. But for visiting hours later it was too many people at first. This time around we are not letting anyone in at the hospital until the last day there.

I had a c-section. I was in the hospital overnight being induced and that went no where. Once they were ready to bring me in for the c-section, DH called my parents and they drove up to the hospital and waited in the waiting room for DH to come down.

i was induced (36 hours), then pushed for 8 hours. I only wanted DH there. DS was born at like 3AM, and everyone came at 10AM. it was perfect for me, i was showered, dressed, teeth brushed, and ready for visitors at that point. DS was in the NICU so no one got to see him anyway.

Re: BTDT: when did your parents/close loved ones arrive to the hospital?
I was induced and told everyone to stay home and be comfortable until ds was born (which did make our parents nutty). My mom lives 10 min from the hospital. My in-laws live about 45 min away, so they came to our house to hang out (we're about 15 min away from the hospital). It was really nice for our doggies as well. We called once ds was born and they all came racing over. They got to see him being cleaned up while I was being stiched up, etc and then I got to see the parents while I was still in L&D.
It was nice too b/c we were calling/texting with updates until I started pushing and I don't think they had good reception in the waiting room. Plus my DH wasn't running between the waiting room and L&D with updates, which would have made me crazy....
ETA - I was induced at 7pm on a Friday and didn't have ds until 5pm the next day....

Re: BTDT: when did your parents/close loved ones arrive to the hospital?
I did not want anyone there when I was in labor, nor did I want anyone coming in for the first hour or so after I gave birth. I called my parents when I was admitted because they were coming from OOS. They went to my house. DH called them and MIL after DD was born, and they came to the hospital then.
