So yesterday was our first day househunting!
And it was interesting!
House #1: We walk into the house and my DH hears a noise. It sounded to me like a loud heating system, but as the house is an estate sale, I was surprised if the heat was on. DH asks the realtor where the water meter was, and the realtor said it was in the basement. DH was like, "Show me now" and when we opened the bulkhead door, the basement was under 4 feet of water! A pipe had burst They called SCWA to turn off the water, and the realtor then became preoccupied with calling the family's attorney (understandable) but said we saved the house because if we'd never made the appt., he'd have showed up on Sunday for an open house and who knows what could have happened. He said we could get a great price on it now But we're gonna pass! It was very old and I didn't like the layout, although the large property and 2 car garage were pluses.
House #2: Our fave so far Great neighborhood, between a nature preserve on the side and in back. Room to expand, minor updating, deck and pool. CO issues with a woodburning stove and the property line (could lose 5ft of side property), but they are being worked on, and neither are dealbreakers for us.
House #3: 2 blocks from House #2. This one was what DH called a "gut and run" where the builder bought the house dirt cheap and used builder grade materials. It was move-in condition, but the house was a small 4 bedroom, and at the top of our price range. The deck was wonky, and I didn't like the giant empty sand lot behind the house (I thought it was a sump) and the industrial yard next door (garages and tractor trailers).
House #4: is all I can say.
