PGD?

Who has done this? I just came from the doctor and he's encouraging us to do it for our 3rd round of IVF set for this June.

I'm terrified to find out that I make all bad eggs and I need to have some other lady's kid Chat Icon

I'm just curious, for those who did it, why and how your results came out. Please FM if this is too public. This girl could use a reason to have a little hope right now...

ETA: DH and I have both been through a battery of genetic screening due to recurrent miscarriage, but neither of us have come back as carriers of anything. The doctor suggested we do the PGD because we've had 2 IVFs that resulted in no pregnancy and nothing to freeze in addition to chemical pregnancies.

The scary thing is that I felt the vibe from the conversation that the fact that I am typically a poor responder to the IVF meds it's likely, probable, idk that I am not making chromosomally normal eggs...and that if we did PGD and everything came back with chromosomal abnormalities that we would need to think in terms of egg donor. I'm very afraid that having this test is going to shut the door on having my own child.

Re: PGD?

I have done it. Two times for Fragile X.

It has pros and cons.

My last time it was amazing what happened. With PGD you will either have a 5dt or will freeze and then need to do a FET.

We sent our embies day 3, and lets say 7 came back normal. Then do to lab error, we sent the same embies out on day 5 and only 4 came back normal.

For me, I am weighing the option of just doing another Day 3 even though my embies changed. I don't know if it happens all the time. I also do not know if I can afford another fresh and frozen cycle.

Because of the lab error I am getting my next PGD cycle free. However, I don't know if we were paying for it, if I would do it for many reasons--too many to type. LOL! DH says yes, I am leaning towards no!

Oh and PGD is different then testing for chromosomal abnormalities, PGD checks for markers from carriers. They can tell you if an embie is a carrier or affected. But, affected could mean a whole bunch of repeats or just the same amount as me.

Re: PGD?

I have been through PGD/IVF multiple times now. I am a fragile x carrier so we did pgd to select for unaffected embryos.
You will go through normal ivf then the eggs are fertilized like before. The lab will biopsy tge embryos on day 3. My drs office will biopsy anything that has 4 or more cells. They do prefer there to be 6-8 cells though. That cell then gets sent out to tge lab performing the testing. Your drs office will get results back morning of day 5. Then the unaffected ones are transferred back. Now the lab we used can also check for chromosomal abnormalities as well. When we did this for our daughter three years ago they couldnt do both.

There are pros and cons, and it iscertainly stressful. If you havequestions feel free to fm me.

Re: PGD?

I did PGD. I now have a HEALTHY 13 day baby boy,

I did it because i lost a set of twins and a singleton due to down syndrome.

I banked my embryos for a few months and used frozen ones too .. I sent out for PGD 30 and only 3 came back normal- i put all three back and only one took== MY PERFECT LITTLE BOY- SIMON.

gOOD LUCK TO YOU

Re: PGD?

I did it and I thank God everyday!
My husband and I both have sickle cell trait (two traits can equal the disease) so we were encouraged to do pgd or could end up with an extremely sick child. We had 7 embies and the day of transfer we were told that 6 of the embies had the actual sickle cell disease!! My son is the only one that wasnt affected. So im so glad we did it and will continue to do it for our next cycle. It costs but its very much worth it.

You produced 30 embryos to test for PGD and only 3 came back normal? Am I reading this right? Was this the product of several stim cycles?
