Moving out of state - where to begin?

DH and I have recently been talking about moving out of state. I don't know if we REALLY want to, but it's a thought. Where do you start with something like this? How do you research good areas and school districts?

We live in Holly Springs(outside of Raleigh) Housing is reasonable, schools are great, prtty good job market. I also went to college in AZ which is booming right now

Re: Moving out of state - where to begin?

DH and I have been talking about moving to PA. My greatest resource of information has been from reading the forums on the City Data website. www.city-data.com
We are looking specifically in Northeastern PA - There is a forum specifically for the area. Many locals and OOS users post questions and give advice. Also, School Digger has come in handy in looking for schools. Once you choose and area, you can do a simple Google search for the best schools. Best of luck :)

Re: Moving out of state - where to begin?

When we decided to move out of state, we took a week vacation and spent it just exploring and finally signed a lease at the end of the week beginning when we would move there.

It was good to rent first (we were able to do a 6 month lease), b/c we had time then to find the perfect location to buy.
